Has anyone seen or used the Velocity Offroad Billet Spacer? I found this product while searching the endless videos on You Tube and it looked very interesting.

    http://www.velocityoffroad.com/#/tacoma-2005-2010/4539830949

This looks a little to good to be true. The site claims that these will allow you to run up to a 33 inch tire and the install looks super simple but I still feel a little sketched out by the concept. It extremely important that I keep this vehicle as my daily driver and I would love to go up to a 33 inch tire but I'm not sure if I wanna risk going to a full out lift yet. Any insight to this product would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for your time!

    Welcome to TW! :)

"Hate" may be a little strong, but there are much better ways to lift the truck now. Check out offerings from some of our vendors.

Welcome to TW. If you're going to do a lift you should just do it right the first time instead of wasting time and money.

I would look into some bilstein 5100 adjustable shocks. It will give you what you're looking for. And probably about the same price.

Just had to say I installed a Velocity kit on my Taco back in July and am about to do another on a buddies rig... Put some pretty hard miles on it with no complaints. I know alot of people bring out the beat down stick on spacers but for me it's worked out great!
    Just my newbie 3cents.....

Those top plate spacers over extend the CA's, and can lead to breakage of a ball joint, or shock.....

Yea yea... I have heard this from everyone and there second counsins uncle.....

But the fact remains there are 20+ leveling kit companies out there all selling millions of dollars worth of spacers.... Do you really think they would all put themselfs at risk of being sued do to a balljoint or CV failure?

I talked to 4 companies before I purchased a kit, all respected brands and companies and each of them had the same anwser. As long as your not exceeding 3" of lift (and you can't combine a TRD bilstein with 3" kit) you will be ok with mild OffRoad use..... Each of them did say if you take your rig to the desert and pound on it, a strut spacer like Velocity may not be for you, but then stock suspension can fail as well.

Jez you cam get a spacer kit installed right from the dealer?

All I know is I used a spacer and drop diff kit on my 01 taco and rang up over a 150k without any issues before a dickhead in a minivan with no insurance totaled it....

This taco I have now has one crazy trip to Lapaz for the Baja 1000 chasing and thousands of hard miles on it and when I did the brakes on it last week everything looked tip top shape!

Again maybe not for everyone....... But for me the smart money choice for sure!!!

Btw... This may be a dumb newbie question.... But how does a 3" lift Bilstein or Icon replacement strut not have the same geometry and angle as a spacer kit?

A Top plate spacer adds length to the assembly. The others dont, but lift via increased spring rate. Some extended Co's even say to only use with aftermarket UCA's.

    Interesting.....
but if your gaining lift, how are you not gaining lenght in the strut to accomodate? The strut would have to be longer to accoundate or youd have like 1" downtravel and a crappy as hell ride? Mount to mount is the same distance lifted:confused: still puts angle on CV's and balls.

Right. The Shock/spring assembly is not lengthened when useing preload spacers, and results in a crappy ride. Other coilover assemblys are valved according to the spring rate they are designed for, thus the ride may be more firm, but its much more controlled. The top plate spacers lengthen the assembly, longer than what the geometry was designed for, and thus can lead to breakage of components.

You a fool. The companies are at no risk since it says on each of the companies websites that they are not responsible for any injuries or damage due to use of the spacers. Obviously you are another person who doesn't care much about his truck. Not that I care if you like to half ass shit till everything breaks prematurely, but I wouldn't do that to a $25,000 investment.

Anything to contribute constructive????? Rigs are never an "investment"....LOL

To come out and call eveyone in the world a "fool" for running a spacer without real world experience and again without FACTS to back it up shows your true ignorance. Thanks for that...........

If you believe for a second a peice of paper that says "there not responsible" (that I did'nt sign before I bought) keeps anyone out of civil litagation.......... your crazy......

I deal in facts.......Most of us deal in facts......

If you have actual facts to share and contribute.... post them up?

Again not your cousins Ed's Third wife shirly, whose defective balljoint failed at 200k...... If not go back to building that fence........ BBBAAAHHH

There's plenty of facts already posted on other spacer threads. Please search and you will find info. I design parts for a living (mech engineer). I know a little something about how components function and wear. Spacers are not good for your suspension components. (Use found info to verify)

I guess your truck is a money pit, but my truck is worth more than I paid for it = investment. I would never degrade it by putting cheap parts on it that do nothing more than wear parts quicker. I can get 2 bilstein 5100's for less than a "decent" spacer lift.
