I have the 5800X. If you go one page back you'll find my Tomb Raider benchmark scores with ray tracing and DLSS 2.0 enabled on a 3090 with a 3950X and 5800X. I'm extremely happy with the uplift. I went with the 5800X due to availability and it's a stopgap for me until DDR5 CPUs/MBs come out anyways.

I will say I wish the 5800X was about $50 cheaper. Right now it's so close to the 5900X I still wish I could of found one lol.

Anyone watching the videos on Intel's "golden ticket," promo? Basically they've partnered with EK and Coolermaster to design AIO based coolers with TECs that can subambient cool 10th Gen i9s. Allows for crazy overclocking. Kind of neat. I wish we could see what the tech could do on a Ryzen though given they aren't space heaters but love cool temperatures. One huge drawback. A 10900K with one of these coolers draws almost 500 watts lol.

Cool welcome to the field! When the world has a global pandemic you won’t have any lack of work as a nurse. Not sure when you would ever have a lack of work as a nurse lol. I could work 30 days if I wanted.

According to Nvidia and early benchmarks you’re looking at low single digit performance differences. I think at MOST you’ll miss out on about 3%.

hmm so take a 3 percent hit from not having pcie 4.0 or a 5 percent hit from not having a amd cpu if I buy a amd gpu.

Nvidia has stated they are already working on a Smart Access like feature thats part of the PCI specifications. Would be enabled for both AMD and Intel. Which if they do, and depending exactly how AMD did things, AMD could enable the feature for Intel as well. So that current 5% gain could be moot :)

There's also the new shader to SSD memory access features that will come to the 30 series and 6000 series in the near future that may require faster bus speeds. It's future proofing more than anything else. If you don't upgrade you won't notice a difference right now but may if that technology catches on with developers.

@Jester243 Not sure if a 5800x would work for you but Amazon has been having them come "instock" on and off all morning. Not technically in stock till Mid december but could at least preorder it. Not sure if youve found what you want or not yet

Still waiting for my name to come up for the 3080 FTW3 Ultra (which Reddit says will happen in Feb...)
Was going to maybe try for a 6800xt but everyone likes releasing stuff at 0700 here which is right when I leave work.. So that's not gonna happen.

At this point it just depends on which one I can get first, I guess.
Unless the 6800xt puts up some crazy numbers.
