1st snow today made me aware of how much the tires kick up along the side of the truck, especially onto the rear flair area. Truck is stock other than winter rubber in stock sizes.

I've seen a bunch options for flexible & wider flaps, but nothing longer. Any tips?

Longer mudflaps (or any mudflap for that matter) are easily ripped off if you happen to back into a hard snow bank and spin the tire a bit. The flap gets sandwiched between the tire and bank, the tire rotation drags the flap downward, and bingo - the flap gets ripped off. This has happened to me multiple times when plowing snow (my '06) or navigating a recently cleared area of woods ('98 - backed over a stump - same phenomena - except it also buckled the front quarter).
Flaps are not the total answer to keeping the sides of your truck clean of everything the tires may throw up. They help, and probably cut down on the high impact hits from stones, but are not the end all solution.
I wouldn't want a truck without them, and I'm VERY disappointed that Toyota stopped including them as standard equipment.

Im sure longer mudflaps exist but I wouldn't recommend them

I prefer the longer wider flaps, even though they require extra care when reversing in some situations. I neglected to install them on my wife's Land Cruiser, and after 10 winter seasons, the vehicle is paying the price.

My Tacoma will not being paying the same price. If something comes up on the radar, I'll post it.

One tip I'd offer on flaps - cut a vertical slit over each attachment hole. Do NOT anchor them to the extreme. This way, if you do get into a reverse situation that'll pull 'em off, only the flap gets damaged and not the fender or quarter panel. Did that on my '98 after the body work got completed on the front quarter.

my 2nd gen had the factory Sport long mud flaps. All of the 2nd gen front flaps will eventually break from just the wind. Just drive down the freeway and watch almost every 2nd gen you see with front mud flaps that are broken and or flapping in the wind. I'm glad they arent longer on my 3rd gen.

RokBlokz XL are longer than stock. They're about as long as the 2nd gen OEM flaps. I haven't destroyed mine yet after two years of dragging them over rocks.

How close they were to the ground when my truck had stock suspension:

Thought ... How about adding a 6 inch long x 3/16" or so semi soft rubber pinned to the bottom of the mud flap? It can easily be torn off if it gets pinched but still protest the side/under corners of the truck. Easy to make and easy to replace/remove .... JMO

Also another comment .... The Tacomas have the bottom door edges not facing down under the door sill as my old Chevy / GMC trucks did. Design Helps prevent tire kick up from being thrown directly into the bottom of the door and into the door rain holes ...

I run Rekgen in the standard size. They are slightly adjustable and I’ve got them poking out a little to compensate for the Spidertrax spacers.

Best photo I have at the moment.
