Rear wheel drive + very little weight on the rear axle = easy to burn out. :) IMO, these trucks drive better with 50-100lbs of ballast behind the rear axle. It puts a little more pressure on the rear tires. Both because of the weight added, and because putting it behind the rear axle shifts the stance a little and improves the weight distribution.

Love my gas mileage, also 24-26 MPG. Took it on a trip this past summer to the Colorado Mountains, 1300 lbs of me, the GF, my motorcycle , luggage and all the other krap, and on the way home the GF said can't we go faster so I put the pedal to the metal, and it topped out at 102 on the GPS before the computer ended the fun.

She has never asked to go faster again:D

You forgot wet pavement too. Sh!t, a 20 year old Escort missing a cylinder can roast tires in the rain.

Love my 2.7...I have plenty of power to pass people on the highway and the acceleration is pretty good with the 5 speed. I've hauled about 900 pounds + myself more than a few times, and I have had no trouble at all getting up to speed. I'm really impressed with what this little truck can do. If I ever need more power, I just take the 5.4 V8 out for a spin...but so far this truck has handled everything I've thrown at it.

I just love how some people make the 4 cyl sound like it's a Smart Car or something of that ilk. Just made a trip yesterday in my 2.7L 4 cyl from Phoenix to Heber, AZ and back(300 mi) on a highway with several high inclines....sure it "growls" but easily maintained 70mph :D and did it on 12 gallons of gas. :)

I love my lil 2.7, I drove FAR last night on a 1/4 tank, I was actually wondering if I would run out of gas....made it to the gas station just fine. I love the fuel mileage! Plus even being a 4cly, the truck lugs like a champ, in 4wd low I can simply let the clutch out and climb up hills without even touching the throttle. Great truck, love the motor.

Its a common American failure to declare something has no balls, but the same could be said for the 4.0 if I chose to drive , say, a high output v-8. The better statement (without the inbred smack talk), is the 4 cyl has decent acceleration for a 4 cyl , but the 4.0 has more hp and better 0-60, even for a v-6 . I love that lil 4 cyl , acceleration is just fine. If you want more , need more , then buy more thats fine too. They may out accelerate me , but i always see them again at the next red light.

I wanted a 6cyl, but 6 months ago I found my 2002 2.7L with 42,000 miles and had to jump on it... So far I havent really needed more power... Ive done some 4 wheeling and havent needed more power Ive hauled some ATV's 3 people and gone up some steep inclines and its handled everything like a champ... Now I love these 4 bangers

I get so nervous when that light comes on. My scan gauge says I have around 100 miles left to my tank, but should scan gauge be wrong.....I will look like an ass....I have not pushed it to it's limit yet lol.

I like it. It's slow and has no torque, requires me to think before changing lanes and merging but it's nimble, fun to drive and economical. If I want to feel huge torque I have another toy.

I'd be more concerned about the level of service if they are having troubles distinguishing a 4 from a 6 lunger.

Agreed, 4 Low is incredible on these trucks. I could climb straight up a tree if I really wanted too!
