Thanks for the reference numbers on other V6 timings. I’ll have to educate myself a bit more there. I wonder what is the magical number when air starts to be pushed back through the intake valve?

What PID do you log for intake VVT? The only PID I’ve found is labelled intake VVT target. By the name, I suspect that that is what the ecu wants, but not necessarily what the engine is doing. But I don’t know that. I see this number jump pretty quick when I stab the pedal. If the actual engine timing increases at that speed I probably will not see the performance increase I want.

And as @ForceOfG also pointed out, I have seen that ignition timing map. That is my biggest worry that I will get knocking. But it should be pretty evident if I do? And then I would retard timing in that map.

The other thing I am unsure about is if I will will need to also tune the exhaust VVT and valve overlap.

    Good morning everyone,

we want to let everyone know due to a few things, there may be up to a 48 hour response time on some tickets right now.
    1. We are changing our ticket and responses system so that our emails no longer go to spam (Thank you BlkTaco47 for helping us figure out the cause)
    2. We are seeing an extremely high volume of messages right now

    Thank you for understanding.

Change the first 100 on the primary axis to something like 50, but keep your speed value the same and give that a try. FYI 86 in the table is about 75 MPH so you can raise that a little higher if you like.

Thanks for a tip. Got it working.
    set like this
    upload_2020-11-12_14-55-49.jpg

TC did unlock at 76.4, accel 43.6 % and RPMS immediately started slowly going up (gained 100 RPMS in 2 sec.
Looks like a fudge factor is ~1.13
I may need to lower the 50 value a bit and figure out the locking part to make unlocked a bit longer.
    Thanks.

It's complicated... it varies depending upon the engine, rpm, load, and more?... that's why variable valve timing exists... to maximize performance (and efficiency) under the widest conditions possible.

You're right, it is a mistake to conclude that the cam moves as fast as the target. I've been asking the question for years; and, I got too excited when I found this. Looking into this a bit further, it appears that there is an electric component to some of Toyota's VVT systems. This appears, to me, intended to provide a more stable hydraulic pressure. They are probably quicker to respond at low engine rpm.

Your proposed changes seem pretty mild. I'd say, just change the intake and see if it feels different. If it doesn't, revert back and move on. If it does... then worry about all the rest.

Also consider, if the ECU only knows the target and the cam is slow to respond; then, the ECU is constantly using the wrong ignition and injection timing.

Anyone able to find the software on the website? I ordered and I received my key. The instructions say to click the yellow button to download it, but the button is for support. I was able to find the old software but not vf tuner

This is a good point. The cam timing has to advance / retard at near the same rate as the ignition and injection timing, which are not mechanically linked to the crank. So it probably does move at near the rate you posted.

Well you talked me into it. I'm gonna give it a few days to let things settle in with my new fuel pump, and then see what happens.

I finally got around to driving quite a bit the other day on the highway going to work. There’s a lot of hills on the drive where the truck usually slams to 4th and screams. But the other night the truck only shifted to 4th gear one time. All the other times it kicked down to 5th, pulled and actually gained a steady speed going uphill. I was actually very impressed. I’m running a version where I kept all the locking and unlocking tables for 5th and 6th gear stock except I raised the S2 maps. Not sure if it was the half lock which caused the truck before to lose speed so it felt like it needed to shift to 4th but it ran really good on the highway and I got about average 22.5mpg going 75-80mph.

I would assume your edits would also apply, more or less, for MT as well? If so, I might be looking into your mild+wild edits

Question, do you get upshift to 5 after kick down to 4th? I only can upshift to 5th by letting the pedal and sometimes it takes a few sec to upshift
Mat told to update acceleration shifting tables, but I was not yet able to find correct speeds.
