Wish I'd gotten the protective film the first time. Oh well guess I'll do it the second time!

I just put this protector on mine and it does indeed look better and it doesn't scratch. I ordered a spare so I have another one if I need it.

It's simply insurance; to prevent future wear. Does the mark up really come as a surprise to you? Everything is massively marked up. We live in a world of greed. How much you think the truck was to make?

I dunno, how much? I would bet a lot more than you think after all the costs are considered. And your not paying $50 for a piece of plastic, your paying for the time and effort that went into bringing the product to the market.

For what it’s worth, you get the protector for the cluster panel, radio, and small shift selector panel to the left of the shifter. $50 to not see scratches and fingerprints every time I’m in the truck is well worth it to me

I hear ya, everyone has their line in the sand. I'm sure other companies will offer alternatives.
Would like to see a permanent solution instead of band aid.

    LED's so far :-/
If these protective films can cover as much of the sides of that "stick button" hole to prevent more dust from getting in I'd be happy for the price!

I’ve had decent luck with a headlight restoration kit. Had a similar issue on an 08 Scion tC, after a can of pop exploded in my car, the acid damaged the plastic under each droplet, and I scratched the crap out of it trying to clean it. Being broke at the time and having leftovers from a restoration kit, I decided to give it a go and was pleasantly surprised at the results.

I don’t have before and after pictures, but before it looked much worse than any I’ve seen in this thread, and afterwards it was way more than passable, where you’d have to look close to notice the harder areas to polish like right next to the hole of the odometer button.

So, that’s definitely an option if you want to give it a shot. Takes a decent amount of elbow grease and patience, but it worked.

Knowing that the taco gauge lens is just as soft, I’ll probably be picking up some sort of screen protection for it right off the bat when it arrives.

You won’t regret it. I tried some polish and it was no where close to new. New lens and a screen protector, and I’ve been good to go. My old unprotected lens seemed to swirl even when using a clean microfiber cloth.

I bought an extra instrument cluster lens and never installed it. I finally got around to pulling the old one out. So I polished it up with some plastic polish them put a few coats of liquid ceramic coating on it and its as new as new can be.

Mostly just trying to clean it. It scratches very easily when wiped with a microfiber towel.

Interior detail spray and a clean microfiber...just like I clean the other 3 vehicles in the family.

There's 20 pages of people complaining about scratching their lens. It ain't user error.

Microfiber is an amazing towel, and holds on to any little particle it gets near. Plus you shouldn't just wash them in the washer with regular detergent, and when you dry them you dry them alone with no fabric softener. I made the mistake one day of using one without checking it, apparently in front of my detail cabinet it fell on the floor somehow. It got put back in the cabinet, and me not thinking grabbed it to buff off the Paint Sealant. Well it had a little dirt in it from the garage floor you couldn't even see. But after buffing the hood and stepping back you could see a bunch of swirls etc. So in the end they can scratch if not taken care of properly.

@AUTacoma18 do you remember what size grommet you used for the trip button? Just got my new cluster in today and looking at that trail of dust inside the original is driving me crazy.
