Air Compressor Question

So I've been doing some research on compressors and have narrowed my search down to these three. Wanting to see you guys have any feedback on them?

What do you want to do with the compressor?

 

I don’t have one of those models but I do have a viair and use it a lot and never had a problem. Had it for 4 yrs now. My neighbor thinks I bought it for his lawn mower tires I guess.

 

Just really for airing up tires in like an "oh crap" situation.

viair 88p airs up my 265/75/16 tires just fine

 

I don’t think you can go wrong with any of those. My preference would be the ARB just because I have their dual air compressor and love it.

Keep in mind that the ARB CKMA24 that you listed is for 24V applications. If you want the 12V version the model number would be

Seems like overkill for just flat tires imo

If you're airing down/up regularly for the trail then go with the bigger compressors. I think you'd do just as well with a

Viair 88p or similar for just random use.

Anyway, I just got the Viair 300P which is the level below the 400P you're looking at.

Viair 88P for about 7 years and it’s never had any issues. I would avoid the ones that have a cigarette plug because they tend to be less powerful (to avoid blowing fuses).

 

I have the 400P, its very fast, if you need the occasional top up on your tires its over kill, very good for airing up after getting off the trail.
you can get something smaller for the occasional air ups.

 

I was out on the trails with experts for the first time last weekend and one of the guys had the Viair 300P. I liked it so much that I ordered one this week, it will be here on Sunday.
The 400p looked like overkill.

 

Nice yeah I love it so far.

Filled my 275/70 tire from 20psi to 40psi in right at 2mins. Love that it has a deflator too, which took even less time.

Gonna be doing a comparison video this weekend using the MORRFlate system to see if it's any faster than just using the inflator/deflator on one tire at a time.

For "airing up in the Oh Crap" situation. I'd just use the spare tire to replace the flat tire. Then stop at the nearest Casey's, QuicTrip or convenient store to air up.

In a pinch, a bicycle pump will work. It just takes a long time and many pumps. Good cardio workout is a side benefit.

I certainly wouldn't spend $$ on a compressor just "air up in the oh crap" circumstance.

You could probably carry a small N2 tank for this purpose.

 

I understand where you are coming from, but I live in wyoming, so sometimes the closest gas station can be a couple hundred miles away. Also with the idea of filling up or airing down during hunting season to go to and from camp.

 

Agreed, for just the oh crap thing, it's not worth it, but I saw first hand the utility of having one handy while on the trails. That and an upgraded towing attachment point were the first two upgrades I ordered for my truck to be more ready for off-roading.
To me, if I were in the boondocks like Wyoming, it's a no brainer!

 

2 great piece of equipment to carry with you is a air compressor and a jump pack.

Absolutely! My wife gave me one of those tiny jump packs a few years ago and I've used it to start full sized, big block vans where the battery was stone cold dead. It's mind blowing to see something that tiny firing up a huge motor with such ease. Not only that, they can power/recharge all of your personal electronics.

For a jump pack, mine is from GooLoo and it's been rock solid for the 4 years I've had it.
