Is it better to stick with 16/17" wheels for daily driving?

Low pros handle so much better on road and really the ride difference is negligible if you have good suspension. Coming from a guy that's ridden in trucks with paper thin tires and wide ass wheels.

    As a completely different thought.......

Take delivery on the truck. Drive it as delivered, wear out the OEM tires doing your normal stuff. Continue your research. You will be in a better informed position to make a decision.

Well, mine is coming from someone to drives on Michigan's pothole filled roads, so that's probably the difference. It's like being off road, but you're still in the city.

Welcome to TW! I also come from the sporty car world, usually opting for making them faster/louder/lower/better cornering. Trucks are new to me. I went with 17" Methods and I am very happy with them. Tire size is slightly larger than stock (Method MR305 NV's in 17x8 on 265/65R17 k02's) and I get compliments on the setup all the time. Again, to each his own.

Why not keep your stock wheels and tires as a seasonal set and buy something more aggressive? I sold my stock wheels and tires with 300 miles for 700.

I think the potholed roads are actually worse... there's an expectation on the street that you can go (at least) the speed limit on a smooth surface with reasonable comfort. Off road you know you have to go slower and anticipate poor terrain.

I hadn't even considered 18's but now I am since my truck is my daily driver and only sees the occasional field during deer season. Several people commented how they perform better on pavement. Anyone have any more to say about that? What does that mean exactly? I was thinking going 265/60R18 which is the same diameter as my stock 245/75R16s just wider. What will I notice in difference driving it?

What part of Kentucky are you from? I live in Georgetown.

    Yeah, I'm seeing that.

I know, and I've done that. I posted this as more of an opinion post, because to me, that's another way to research and learn.

I think I'm gonna stick with the 17's just because there's more wheel choices.

    Ummm............Oh. Hell. NO!!!

I'm pretty sure that's the 2016/17 TRD grille. I don't mind it on my truck, but there are definitely others I like better.

    Yes. Sports and ORs.

I actually like it once I derped it. I even have a Faux Pro in the crawlspace that I just can't bring myself to put on.

The derp is holding up way better than I expected. That might put me over edge with that mild lift?

If I do swap it out, it'll be for the 2020/21 TRD grille. I think the Pro grille is over used.

That is a nice grille, with a built in camera mount.

I do see a lot of Faux Pros, but not too many. My main dislike is that it sticks out from the surround giving the Taco more unneeded snout. If it was flush, I'd be in.

I have always considered the tire as part of the suspension as well, and a part that is exceedingly easy to adjust. I had my racecar days of slot-car handling with low profile tires. Great combo. Now in my old-dude truck days, I prefer the ability to adjust via air-pressure my ride on road commuting or towing or on trail. My trails are hardly hardcore but they would tear up a rim with a low-profile tire and probably the tire itself.
In my opinion, a large wheel and low profile tire is a one-trick pony. If that trick is sportscar handling, I am not sure that I would be driving a truck.
A smaller wheel with more rubber just works, for me.
I prefer the 16". That's what I ran on my first 4Runner, my FJ, my second 4Runner and now, my Tacoma. And yes, I do like the looks! :)

Honestly, that's one of my gripes too.

Since I don't have all that fancy radar and TSS stuff, I'd probably take the emblem from my current grille and move it over where the radar emblem goes too. Then I have the option to black it out or leave subtle chrome accents without looking like every other blacked out Tacoma out there.
