Storytime I guess with me not gritto.

Went hunting last friday with a good friend of mine. We dont get to hunt or hamg out often enough together now that he has two young kids that keep him busy. We decided to head out way back into public land since the stuff close has been real busy.

His neighbor offered up the use of his 4 wheeler for us so we could get back further without all the extra hiking we usually do. So of course we took him up on yhe offer as that meant more time hunting and less time walking.

We went out in the morning and got back to the back of this long drainage we wanted to hunt, Close to 10 kms back and then started hiking the ridges. Didnt find the elk or any good sized mule deer he was willing to hang a tag on.

In the afternoon, 3 ish i think, we decided to relocate further down the valley to be closer to the truck before dark and do some exploring and watch a big cut block.

Well we jump on the wheeler and head down the trail and make it a few kilometers when.........

    20201106_152410.jpg

Doesnt the damn wheel fall off the thing!
Worse setup i have ever seen. The wheel is literally held on with a bolt and a washer. The bolt sheered off and the wheel wobbled off the shaft splines.

Soo we look at this thing trying to decide options on how to put the wheel back on. Look in the storage on the bike and of course theres no tools. Theres a tow strap, ratchet strap, some cover scent, a roll of duck tape and some game bags.

Soo after weighing options again, inculding hiking out then co.ing the next day woth parts and tools we decide that we better get the wheeler out that night or it would probably grow legs and walk away with the amount of people around.

So solution we came up with? The Handy Mans secret weapon. Duct tape! We wrapped the splines with duct tape. I went and found a big old heavy log and we proceeded to pound the wheel back onto the shaft splines over the duct tape.

Would you believe that the wheel stayed on the whole drive back to the truck up and down the hills and through stream crossings? Well it did...couldnt believe it. Even made it home in time for supper.

Windy day here, which allows me to bring up a design flaw for our building. We typically get winds here from the South, and which way does our building face? Correct! So, whenever we get winds, especially those exceeding 20mph, it creates a tornado effect in front of our rental door so you get bombarded with tumble weeds and various debris to the face. It's fantastic

Just going on record here but I think dinner and supper are acceptable to use interchangeably.

    Lunch, however is never dinner.

I have been hoping to taste your meat since you dropped in this thread. It was supposed to poke through yesterday but it did not. I'm scared.

A great visual explaining why I am so incredibly happy that Jean Luc likes to play with mice he catches and not eat them :D
