The way this thread has gone if OP got so much as a free tire rotation from his dealer he'd be out here rubbing everyone's noses in it. I'm betting they're fixing it under warranty and told him to go pound sand on his other demands.

Maybe OP’s in a straight jacket with assault charges pending.
Maybe he’s catching air in his new Pro.
Maybe he’s pissed off and won’t report back.
Maybe he’s reading that book on self presentation.

Probably overwhelmed with the number of people who thought it ridiculous that he was so entitled to something, like a "big discount on a TRD Pro." The most I'd see the dealership doing is trading him for a similarly spec'd model. But even that is at their descretion.

My guess is he got a new truck and a non-disclosure agreement to sign.

That's a big issue with Toyota and it ties into their " reliability ". Their ecu feedback is way too dull.

Sounds like he worked at a dealership for 7 years +. He would know how to navigate the system and get a new truck. Surprised everyone was so offended by his confidence that he would get what he wanted.

I would tend to agree if he had the truck for any length of time. But buying a brand new vehicle that suffers catastrophic engine failure during the first few days is a unique situation. Toyota isn’t obligated to swap the truck but I think in this case he would have a convincing argument.

Where does it say catastrophic engine failure? just says no compression in 1 cylinder. Could be a simple fix. Can’t ask for a new truck if you don’t even know the damage.
an actual Master Tech would know this stuff though.

He didn’t window the block but it still requires the head to be pulled, and most of the valve train moved to a new casting, then reassembly. It’s very intrusive.

EDIT: assuming there’s a burnt valve or machining error in the head. Yes that’s an assumption.

I don't disagree about wanting a new truck. I know I would in this situation but that's not what anyone is talking about. Its the demanding this and that and when all he is entitled to is getting his current truck fixed. Anything beyond that is up to Toyota and only a goodwill gesture.

If it were me I'd push for a new truck too (comparable model) but end up happy getting mine fixed with an extended warranty thrown in.

One person that I was talking to said that they were able to talk the dealer into throwing it into the purchase deal. Pretty crazy. They also said that the shop recently dropped a motor in a 1st or 2ng Gen with something like 300k+ on it?

In my mind, esp after Hyundai launched their 100k warranty, it wouldn't be much of a stretch to offer lifetime. That certainly boosted their profile. Just how many cars would have warrantable issues at 200k+. Certainly less than the profits and sales that they'd see.

On my side of things, I'd rather have a heavy handed warranty on the gizmos.

It probably does sound very intrusive to people who aren't familiar with engines. How bout the front timing cover leak? 16 hour job to fix it. WAY more involved then changing out a head. Should all those people be given new trucks too since those repairs are way more intrusive? How bout the howling rear ends? Low transmission fluids that were causing all kinds of trans issues? Fuel pump recall? HPFP replacement?
In essence, the head is a bolt on part. None of the rest of the truck was compromised. Even you agree that a new motor most likely isn't needed so how is a new motor not needed but a whole new truck is appropriate?
Not that any of it matters I spose, just curious if any of the people saying that he deserves a new truck own their own business cause I would patronize that place every chance I get for the free new products when I bring my broken stuff back. Hey my controller for my PS4 broke so how bout giving me one of those new PS5s and we call it even

Just a stupid comment from me on this. There has to be a better fix than pulling the motor. I do like the other method of pulling the front apart versus the motor, but dang. I might even be up for a bit of JB Weld if it leaked enough to bother me.

    Sorry! Continue. :D
