I have seen it enough on here that I figured it was a result of people hooning their trucks. I don’t mash my truck at all but was chasing a clunk in my suspension and though my lower spherical bearing needed replacing. I was a little surprised to find the cracked top hats but not completely shocked. Hoping to hear back from Icon before they all take vacation for the upcoming holiday but my recent experience with them doesn’t give me a lot of hope.

I spy some shiny blue parts in my near future.

for now i swapped back to stock suspension up front. Got that stink bug going but the truck is drivable.

    4 run, 2 don't
    Oh damn.

Just curious, any reason why not Fox or ADS?

I run King myself but independent research showed use of better quality parts (in certain areas of the coilover) on Fox vs King.

My experience with Fox has been that they’re comparable to Icon. ADS is awesome from what I hear but I have no first hand experience myself. King has the reputation for backing their products with incredible customer service. Ease of finding replacement parts and that they’re somewhat local to me tips the scales in their favor. Basically they make it the easiest for me to buy and maintain in the future as opposed to the other two companies.

Honestly for my real-world needs I could just go with a set of 5100s and call it a day. But I’ve become accustomed to the smooth ride now that I’ve tuned my suspension for my weight.

Right when it starts to get cold. Haha.

it felt really weird to drive the truck this morning with stock suspension and no sway bar being weighed down with all my armor. Cadillac plush but it didn’t give me very much confidence in sweeping curves.

Thanks Mike. I’m just hoping to get replacement parts soon or I’m switching suspension components. They’ve been getting harder to get in contact with for maintenance parts.

For anyone wondering. Here’s the difference between the old and new design of the Icon top hats:

    FA6507EC-5EB8-4526-A6DD-95C576CE9460.jpg

    AA55D173-242B-4A57-92EB-35732E77A8FE.jpg

The addition of the cross bracing should stabilize the top hats to prevent failure. If anyone out there has the old style top hat, I’d strongly recommend keeping an eye on them the next time you’re doing maintenance. You can see the top of the shock while it’s installed for easy identification of which style you have but you won’t be able to see the failure point since it’s under the truck’s shock tower. I noticed on one of mine that the second threaded tab had already cracked partially. I suspect it was only a matter of time before I launched my shock into my engine bay.

As an FYI, Icon refuses to cover this under warranty even though it was clearly a failure of the part by design. That’s $200 out of pocket in replacement parts if yours break.

Archive hammer hangers today on @#NEVERGIVEUP ’s raptor-lined third gen. Every time I install a set of these, I am amazed at how beefy they are and I want a set.
