Hey all, this might be better in the general vF tuner thread, but I'll ask here first. Is there like a glossary type deal that explains what each map does in such a way that a moron like myself can understand? I've copied several of @tonered 's maps, but to be perfectly honest, I'm not entirely sure what they all do.

For instance, I smoothed the Air Load tables, which my understanding should help with more linear acceleration vs the current slog to ~2500 RPM, followed by a rocket ship feel.

I also did the ATRA table. Sounds like this should give me a more lively gas pedal feel.

Did the Throttle Management and PTTT edits, which basically that helps with how much I have to push the gas pedal to get a response?

I'd like to jump in some more and start looking at stuff on my own, but without knowing what different things do or what different stuff means, it's a little daunting.

It is very daunting. We have basically edited only stuff that was specifically mentioned by @OVTune . That is the best that we have at the moment until we get more info from him and if he lets us know that we have full control over the noted aspects. In some areas (any?), I don't think we see all the maps that exist?

I think we will have to continue to learn as the info drops.

Thanks that makes sense. Something I haven't tweaked is the cold start idle - what is the benefit of changing the cold start idle from variable to 900?

    You're welcome!

For me, I get in and go gently. With the stock idle it was too much pull for my taste, esp in parking lots and the neighborhood. On bikes and such where I control the idle, I use just enough to keep the engine turning which is usually a hair over hot idle. 1,500rpm+ is just not necessary, IMHO. I like that I can make that change.

That said though, the maps available seem to only affect the engine when in gear. Idling in Neutral at a stoplight, it will initially vary between 1,100 and 1,500 depending on temps. When I disengage the clutch, the revs drop.

    Not sure.

It's been raining and I've been working a different shift. Normally i have drive time with no traffic where i can goof around, this week i haven't had that.

    These have been minor changes.

I'll update with what i have soon, still waiting for that update from mat.

Getting pretty interested in VF for my ‘21 6MT. Is this supported yet? Also, if new ECU updates come out via Toyota, are we able to flash them in our VF? Or would we have to flash back to stock, then head to the dealer for the update?

Do you know your ECU ID ?

Most of us use Tech Stream to update our ECU's to the most current ...... dealers can be unhelpful.

Here a good place to learn some ECU TSB info. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/ecu-tsb-update.562550/

thank you for the reply! I do not know my ECU ID. I figured the ECU updates would be calibration updates, which would be easy via VF

you cannot update your ECU calibration with vF. that is done via techstream and the associated .cuw file. unless I'm misunderstanding you..

thanks for the reply! You’re not misunderstanding me. Do you know what the difference in an ECU TSB vs editing calibration?

For example; let’s say if I tuned my truck to exactly my liking. Then, an ECU TSB came out. What, if any, benefits would come of updating my ECU?

Support is in the works. It should be released sometime soon according to what Mat said; however, he's always busy and working hard and as a result delays are common. It will be released when he releases it.

ECU updates are done via their executable/Techstream, as mentioned. There exists a thread on those and is also linked in someone's signature. You could go to the dealership to have it done but I've read it's very much a case of YMMV. If you're flashing tunes it is a similar process so you may as well try it yourself.

The general consensus would be to update the ECU as Toyota does things that even Mat doesn't know. I updated my old 2019 and had it previously tuned and noticed a difference in the stock tunes. I never tuned it after that as I traded it for a '21 MT myself which is a C30 ID (yours is likely the same but do check it yourself to be certain)

No problem, happy to help for what little I can! Hopefully our ECU IDs are the same because it would be nice to know at least one other since each ECU seem to be quite different in programming and behaviour (never mind intra-ECU)
