WA here. I just renewed mine (2016 SR5) with personalized plates for $132.50 which included a $5 donation to the state parks. No RTA here in Thurston County (Yet).
For my Pierce/King/Snohomish neighbors, can you set up a PO box to avoid it? I can't believe how much some of you are paying!

As a Texas resident it's crazy to have seen the city (and f'in traffic:rant:) explode over the last several years. There's always a new california plate spotted on my commute, along with the occasional michigan and New York. By the time those cars are wearing Texas plates there are two more newcomers.

There's good and bad that comes with the huge influx. It's cool that my property values are skyrocketing, but not so cool that the tax assessor and I have a disagreement on exactly how much it's skyrocketing.

And as a dude that hates people, it ain't cool that every sidewalk in the small-town hill country are now nut-to-butt packed with tourists.

Yes Cali land prices are higher. I hear stories about workers at tech companies making six figures in the Mountain view and bay area still living in RV's and box trucks because decent apartments and homes are too hard to find or too expensive to get into.

Of course the cost climbs all over but not like that area.

Yep, was out there for business with my company late 2018 and early 2019. Nice place, but there's no way you can get a job out there and survive without either growing up there or moving there immediately after graduation. Would have been nice to have that option. Retire from Cali and move somewhere where cost of living is super cheap to really stretch your retirement money. Can't retire from Georgia and move to Cali, you'll run out of funds very quick.

For the first 4 years here in OR, it was $288, so that ends up at $72 a year. After that, it's done on a 2 year cycle.

I think you can qualify for Section 8 housing with a low-6 figure salary in the bay area.

633 dollars. Just renewed in October. CA is dumb and charge commercial truck fees for a Tacoma. So stupid.

Maybe if the OP is bored they can make a list of the states fees on the first post? It’ll be interesting to see how they compare. Not to derail the thread too much but you guys ever cruise numbeo and compare different states cost of living? It’s pretty interesting to see what stuff costs in other areas.

Absolutely garbage! Washington state can suck it! My new Taco was almost $4k in TTL... The fact that Inslee last minute added to his campaign that he would “fight for $30 tabs” is also embarrassing after he was part of it not going through twice now.

I think most of those stories are a little exaggerated. There are some people making good money and are saving it by doing the whole #vanlife thing. There are many ways to make it other than van life but most aren’t willing to sacrifice. It is very expensive here; however, it is possible to carve out your own thing and really enjoy The Bay. Besides some of those sprinter vans are 150k!! Another 50k and you have 20% down on a decent house.

That's what I pay, would be about $20 cheaper, but I have an Endless Summer plate.

Think my Harley is around $35 a year.
