I just looked, that's not much of a difference. This is Premium vs Stock. Almost exactly the same. Some cells are just 0.125 different.

Yup that's what I saw. I'd really like to know if there's other changes we can't see.

There's got to be. Since the tunes are "octane learning", I would think that it is some kind of algorithm that can detect different octanes and adjust? I bet it is a lot more than we think it is due to it being octane learning and not just regular vs premium.

Yep, as @wiljayhi said, it's the 04A61_Jim.Reg_Perf+Tow. To be honest, I've barely dug into vF Tuner myself, but I've read through all of the threads. So I'm not sure how this one compares to other tunes that you've put together. I'm curious how it compares to M+W, but I haven't come across a 04A61 version of that one yet.

I did end up copying primary upshift tables and slightly modifying the axis upload_2020-11-13_19-58-39.jpg

But i was not able to trigger the event on my test drive, because my TC unlock 5th gear is working now and prevents the downshift to 4th. Really helps to keep momentum going on steep and long incline.
I'm thinking if I can driver to the pass without using 4th gear.

Now I'm looking at TC lock 5th and my data from the drive. I see that I'm unlocking at 75.2 mph and accel 42.6 and locking at 75.8 mph and accel 43.2. I'd to keep it unlock for a bit longer, perhaps to 77 mph, but the locking table looks off. upload_2020-11-13_20-6-39.jpg . There is no the "fudge" factor
I'll just bump it to 80 for now.

one note on the clank issue. by design the truck downshifts from 3rd to 1st on decel, skipping 2nd completely. I was browsing my current and previous logs and it seems to be a case. I did separate 1-2 and 2-3 downshift table by 2 mph , but it did make a difference

2MPH ain't enough, try 5 or 6. You'll also like how it pulls if you slow down to 10MPH and then get on the pedal again.

I raised it to 255.999 to eliminate the half lock. Which I haven’t logged it yet. That was just a by feel test the other night. I’ll have to try and log to see what exactly is going on.

So you want to raise lock values and lower unlock values to get more unlocked scenarios? Say for 5th gear you have lock values for 100% throttle at 100, would you want the unlock at 95?

Lowering the unlock will hold the locked state longer.

I was trying to say it probably doesn't move that fast; since, there is an upgraded system in some engines presumably to increase the rate... and that if it lags without the ECU knowing it means it is reasonably tolerant of ignition and injection timings.

Unsatisfied, I dug around and found 'Intake VVT Change Angle Bank 1'... I think this is what I've been looking for. It's still pretty fast; I logged as high as 12.1° in 47 milliseconds. (I should say, this was during a trip where I drove in my usual efficient style with no quick pedal moves or hard accelerations; so, it probably can move a bit faster... I got ~28 MPG.)

I expanded the 'Atkinson' range quite a bit at lower loads with no ill effects... it didn't feel any different. Higher loads are unchanged; so, 0-60, etc. will be unchanged. I can't yet say it measurably improved my MPG as I routinely get similar numbers on that type of trip.

I think it is just maps we don't have access to. Could be the ol' sugar pill I guess.

Gotcha. That makes sense. Do you log misfires or anything to monitor knock?

I am skeptical the atkinson cycle really makes a big difference in mpgs, at least not to the point where its worth performance compromises. Its not like the taco is really getting any better mileage than a V6 colorado.

Did you notice any change in the transition from low load to high load? That is what I am really after. The truck runs well in low load as is, but the delay between pedal press and higher load performance is what irritates me at times. I’m willing to give up some mpg to minimize the delay.

I’m going to run that one too and see how it runs. I’ve only ever ran my tunes so I’m curious to see others tunes.

after a couple of tanks it settles nicely. Mpg goes up (for me) shift points are excellent and TC temps run a lot cooler.
