Ya, crazy how it's easier to change a head than it is to fix an oil leak. Toyota should invest in some duct tape or bubble gum cause MacGyver taught me that it fixes everything lol

    Hahahaha!

    That is exactly it.

I want to go back and watch MacGyver, but don't want to be disappointed.

From the factory.....10 years 125k on the full Platinum warranty. Anything beyond that is not truly Toyota. That would be the dealer or something aftermarket

From what I’ve heard Toyota will repair a cylinder head by pulling it and transferring everything that isn’t damaged to a new head casting. You get a new casting and a couple new valves or whatever is damaged and the rest of the valve train is removed and installed on the new casting.

IMO pulling a motor is less intrusive than cracking a motor open and rebuilding a cylinder head.

If you bought a brand new PS5 and the main board fried 2 hours into unboxing and starting it, would you be ok with Sony taking it apart and removing all the components and soldering the existing graphics chips and processors and memory onto a new main board? And along the way they stripped a few screws and broke a couple plastic tabs?

11 months into the 12 month warranty you might be just fine with that, but probably not the day you bought it.

Well seeing how it costs Sony about $32 to build a game box, that just might be the driving force on replacing it vs repairing it. Seriously doubt that giant corporations think too much about the owners feelings.

When you bought the PS5, you didn’t sign a waiver stating there was no cooling off period with a bunch of other contracts and waivers stating you agree to Sony’s terms.
You typically would have 30 days to return the PS5. So if it craps out, you don’t call Sony and ask for a repair. You return it to the store you bought it from and either get a refund or exchange it for another.
If it craps out on day 31 or 5 years later, Sony would not ship you a new PS5 or a PS6. They will either repair your PS5 by doing as you stated or ship you a refurbished unit. For some reason people like to ignore the fact that you sign a contract agreeing to Toyota’s terms when you buy the truck. Take it or leave it.
If you really think Ted’s Yelp complaint about his Tacoma will smear their name, just look at this forum. I don’t see any of the issues people have keeping sales down.

Ehh. Cars are in their own world. You don't enter a lengthy finance contract to fund a PS5, or at least I hope to hell you shouldn't be. I would be more inclined to compare it to the purchase process of a house, but that's not right either. Your bank doesn't require a 30 year commitment with extensive inspection and research prior to funding your Toyota purchase. Or at least I hope to hell you shouldn't be.

It's a highly complicated asset with a highly complicated warranty. Nothing else compares. And I would agree with the commenters that are rallying for a little patience. Wait to see what's wrong. Even if it's a whole block that still doesn't mean the rest of the truck is shoddy. If it has a solid diagnosis with a solid fix, I wouldn't hesitate on keeping it long term. And at least the silver lining here is that something that severe should have a solid diagnosis.

The fanboy is strong in this one.

Look I’m not defending Toyota or the OP, but the heart of the truck failed 1000X sooner than most owners/buyers expectations of it. If it indeed floated a valve or lost a compression ring in the first 300 miles that’s a special scenario compared to a failure a couple years and 50 000 miles down the road.

You’re 100% correct Toyota isn’t obligated to give him a new truck but I think it’s not unlikely he gets it or unreasonable to suggest it.

I’m actually not a Toyota fanboy, this is my first that I use as a daily driver. I’m more of an Audi person.
I’m just a fanboy of common sense.

Damn right I'm feisty! Especially after spending that kind of $$. If the problem was not fixed or replaced to my satisfaction, I'd make sure I made the dealers life absolutely miserable through whatever means possible. Especially since I'm old and retired, I have nothing but time to do so. Even if I had to spend days on the sidewalk out front of the dealer with a picket sign and a bullhorn. I've never been one to suffer fools and the older I get, the less I suffer ..

Until you do it you are all talk.

I will grant you that this is a hypothetical action you are talking about and so anything is possible however ridiculous, imaginary and improbable.

I've got Mopar's Lifetime Maxcare with a $200 deductible on our Jeep. Pretty much anything that breaks on it is covered until the cost of the repair exceeds book value of the vehicle. Since Jeep doesn't have the greatest reliability record, it was a no-brainer during purchase.

Jeep aftermarket parts are so much less expensive than other 4x4 too. So if you do break something you can replace it with a better part.

I feel sorry for anyone that the most valuable thing in their life is a mediocre truck. Yes, if it were mine, I wouldn't be happy about it but I wouldn't be losing my fucking mind over it especially before I found out what really was wrong and how the repair went. Worst case, I'd expect to be treated well on trading it in.
