Yup. As of right now. Just have to put some kilometres on it so I can drive there lol.

have 450 more kilometres before I can go over 80km/h. Gotta love that gear break in period

100%! Last thing you want is to go through the entire process (break in time included) again. I had a buddy put a 383 strocker in his 65 Impala convertable and not break it in properly...marbles in a tin can in 1000 miles. Lucky for him it was only some valve issues, but it could have been detected in the first 15 min if he would have done what I told him.

Patience needed for these first 1000kms lol.

however the first time I did the regear I did the break in procedure but the front diff doesn’t spin. Mine does now but not sure how that affects anything

Where are you getting your break-in procedure? Not arguing just curious.

Randy's Worldwide says to keep it under 60 mph (100 km/h) for the first 100 miles (160 km), and avoid towing the first 500 miles (800 km): https://www.randysworldwide.com/resource-center/new-gear-break-in Going by their principle, you'd need to be in 4WD (i.e. transmitting power) to work harden the gear surfaces on the front diff.

ECGS doesn't mention a speed limit: https://eastcoastgearsupply.com/ft-1479-new-gear-break-in-procedure.html , nor does Currie: https://www.currieenterprises.com/ring-and-pinion-brake-in or Nitro: https://www.nitro-gear.com/category-s/181.htm

One would think it would require the front spinning for that 1000kms for break in. How would it break in if it wasn't? Just asking....

I used this link and they mention 50mph for the first drive. And then after that it’s under 60mph for so many miles at a time.
    https://www.stage3motorsports.com/H...-the-Importance-of-Breaking-in-New-Gears.html
also my front diff is full time since I got rid of the add. So the drivetrain spins all the time. It’s the tcase at neutral that keeps me out of 4wd.

I just thought of it now, but I definetely didn’t do that many miles on the first ring gear. Just drove and did a drain. Not an issue now since everything is replaced and this diff spins full time.

Fixed and put the link in above^

The biggest thing is the heat cycling. So I’m going to try and do 50-100km intervals for the first 500km all below 80km/h

Based on Randy's Worldwide and Currie's pages, you would need to be in 4WD and actually transmitting some power through the gear set for heat cycling to occur; "free-spinning" isn't enough. The heat is generated from parasitic losses in the gears (basically a portion of the 15-20% power loss from crank hp to whp).

Ah gotcha. I’ll be putting it in 4wd for the next couple of drives on straight sections then. Thought that with it all engaged it would still hear cylxle enough to do what’s needed.
