I tried that camper shell habitation trick. They laughed me right out of the DMV and said nice try. They promptly collected the 633 dollars and away I went. Now if I had a “hard shell” maybe I would have fought it more. Softopper though they weren’t hearing it. CA for ya.

 

Indiana. 2020 ACLB 4x2 SR $595 for two years.

 

$775 for the new truck registration for a $38k retail truck in Colorado. Painful but at least our gas and real estate taxes are relatively cheap. Not to mention the costs of keeping the roads open all winter.

although that reg cost would have covered a full set of skids! Plus I paid $33,500 for the truck which is a solid deal in the Denver area for a TRD OR with some options.

 

When we moved into our new house, which is in unincorporated territory, my registration went from $600 to $140!

 

Dam Americans talk but less tax than Canada. These prices are crazy. I would be surprised if anyone pays more than about $100 CDN a year to register a personal vehicle. Maybe BC and Quebec might do something crazy. Low taxes general mean more sin taxes and higher. I don’t know for sure what I paid in Alberta, I think around $90 CDN

 

Typical California. It probably depends on who you get and what dmv office you are at. The further north you go, probably the better.

Depends on too many factors, even in the same state. To wit: Many states have a simple fee for the plate, but the town/city/or county will have an excise or property tax that also has to be paid and is included in the registration fee. To answer your question though...it depends but figure on a couple of hundred dollars a year to maybe five or six hundred. My 911 Turbo was about $2,600/year to register in Connecticut and the 2019 Taco was right around $550 in Maine.

 

I see states are now figuring out how to recover some of the money they don't get because electric car owners aren't buying gas that includes the road taxes.
