@Taco No Baka that 3.4 has 239k and was over heated on the hwy. was told it’s had the heads redone and new head gaskets but two cylinders one on each side were dead. I never checked it to confirm because when starting it over I could tell it didn’t have compression.

I have no issues with the one in the Natty, except I really need to regear to 4.56s for towing purposes. But, it's not exactly the tranny I would choose unless it was the only one I could make work. When I add 2 cyls and 1.6L, I'm going with the 6R80, both because the stand alone wiring harness for the engine comes with the wiring harness for it, and because...2OD gears.

I can just see me now going to these out of state trips towing Natty with my wheeling rig there and hopefully back home again. Downside accelerated tire wear on the more expensive set of tires. Up side, no burned up A340F.

Copy that. Seems like I'm going to have a whole store house full of 3.4L parts plus one A340E and a Tacoma T-case, lol. When the engine comes out of the OGT, I know Todd isn't going to want it. He might want the R150F for a spare, but I'll have three 3.4L engines nearly complete with one of them needing to be resleeved on one cylinder (if I wait long enough maybe I'll find a machine shop that does the new plasma arc transfer technique and it won't need to be resleeved, lol), one I have no clue about, but one that needs at minimum a crank kit and a valve job. If the crank is good in the one that needs sleeved, it can go in the original OGT engine. If the engine I got from you is in fact cooked, they must have realllllly cooked it because I cooked the OGT's engine until it flat shut off on me, filled it with water and drove it home. Since then I slapped some new rod bearings in it but I couldn't do anything for the mains without major surgery so I left them. It was quiet for a while but it's starting to rattle a bit on me again.

So, I finally got off my arse during the week and replaced my alternator that got fried on the last Citrus trip way back when. Since everything was roadworthy (save for the fact that I haven't aired the tires back up), I opted to take the OGT to the store and let the battery get a decent charge.

Now, on reviewing the video of the shenanigans on trail 14 @NABeast commented that it didn't appear that my rear locker was doing it's thing. And on the way to and from the store, the left rear tire was howling every time I made a left turn, so when I got home I decided to check to see if the locker was locking. I can confirm it is locking. The question now it whether it's unlocking properly. However in the process I noticed something peculiar.

When I left Citrus, I assumed I was driving on the battery charge only so I wasn't about to use my air compressor to air up or stop at the store and do the same for fear the truck would start back up, so I drove it home on 12 PSI in the tires...not that big a deal, I normally run them on 22 PSI on the road anyway. So here's were things go wonky. I never put any air back in the tires, and since I was only going to the store a mile or so away, I didn't bother with it. However, after testing the locker, and parking the carport queen back in her throne, I noticed this on the right rear tire...

    5vpVmP6WjErMexq75jAlW4-YvmPFIFv6cxu8Mti3_ad6ca671819e26d36b4a9869054d2c09e4791c1b.jpg

Now, as I said, I normally run them at 22 PSI because that's where the tread makes full contact across the bottom and I know I didn't put any air in them so my first thought was since this was the tire that was howling during left turns, it's hot and the air pressure is elevated. Well, not so. I got out my tire pressure gauge and checked the pressure. 14 psi?!? It should only look like that with about 35 psi or something. I checked the others. RR--14 PSI, RF--13 PSI, LF--13 PSI. Here's what they look like...

    8kr6QzO2xlBwAx2x2-pO6gqd8Sbqz_js4TldwovR_c9c44e8034965994a924757c4d9e4f4c6133a088.jpg

 So I ask of y'all...WTF is going on here?!?

I would suggest a chalk test. The tires may change shape while you driving. Just an idea I really have no F’ing clue

    :bananadead: Good one!

There's always that chance. It doesn't ride like it's separated and there aren't really enough miles on them to detect and odd wear patterns. I'll try moving it and see if it flattens out once it's not sitting on the corner of the square.

It didn't take long this time, I made a deal for a 3.4 motor, R150F transmission and essentially everything else under the hood of a running vehicle. I'm purchasing it from a fellow Tacoma Forums member. We didn't discuss talking about it on here, so I won't mention any names unless they want to. The cool thing is it includes a bunch of stuff that will be needed for the swap.

Once I have the Motor and ect here I'll still need a few things.

    1. Conversion harness, these are pretty cheap these days. I'm looking at Toy only swaps.
    2. Converson crossover pipe. I think I'm going to convert the stock one
    3. A complete top shift gear driven transfer case or two
    4. A transfer case adaptor
    5. Clutch peddle assembly
    6. Motor mount plates. I found a guy on FB that makes a set where you don't have to cut the hood for clearence. They're spicifically for IFS frames with a solid axle swap.
    7. Drive shafts, may need. I won't know until I'm done. If the rear needs lengthened I'll just buy a new Tom Woods. The front I can adjust the length buy re-tubing it. It already has a slip jolint.

oh, I'm going to buy a hoist and motor stand. I appreciate the offers from a couple members to let me borrow these. I just know this will take a while and I don't want to tie some elses stuff up for months.

If anyone has or knows of a deal on a T-case or 2 and a clutch peddle assembly please let me know. I have a lead on the parts locally, actully I know a guy that has a small warehouse full of early Toyota parts and he's only a couple miles from the house. I'll stop by and see him later this week.

I found the same thing on the Ram forum I used to be on as well as the Harley forums I am a member of. The only group I found that was as active as this group normally is was the Fiat 500 forum I was on. That was an eclectic group. About half retirees and the other half were into autocross. Made for some interesting cruises.

Did you ever investigate if your current transmission controller would work with an A340F? Or are you just set on having a manual? I say this because you're running 5.29s and the A340F has a higher overdrive gear than the R150F. Even with 4.88s on 36s, I'm turning over 2800 RPMs at 70 MPH in the OGT. That 5vz is going to be screaming with an R150F, 5.29s, and 35s. 1st gear will be a granny gear.

No, I'm just going to run the 5 speed. But, it won't be on 35's for long. I'm going to move up to at least 37's, maybe bigger.

If I hate the 5 speed I can always swap it out later.

Besides all hell breaks loose at 78mph, Smooth and straight, like no hands on the wheel good. Then 78 and the shakes.
