All it takes is a little grease for the squeaky wheel. Where I live, making a squawk about something (For much less, and less insane as my proposed methods) generally results in 'media attention'. As in a local, or two, TV stations wanting to know what the crazy old coot is screaming about. That's negative media attention that no business wants. Whatever works.

Start looking into your state's Lemon Laws. Toyota bought back my 2016 Tacoma - they surely didnt want to but my situation with the truck met several elements of Ohio's Lemon Law. I hired a specific Lemon Law attorney (who wasnt too excited about taking a case against Toyota) I had all my money back within 5 weeks or so. Start doing your homework!

A: The most valued thing in my life is not my mediocre truck. I don't consider it 'mediocre' at all. Hey I paid good $$ for a new rig, with the understanding that it was 'Toyota Quality'... If I wanted 'mediocre' I'd of bought a Ranger.
B: Call me crazy, but I'm old school and I expect to get what I've paid for. If not, I expect for it to be Made Right. And not a low-ball fix, so it costs the dealer the least amount possible. I expect the dealer to stand behind their products.
I know, this is a fast fading philosophy nowdays and a lot of people just expect stuff to break and for some weird reason have no problem with that. Sorry, but I'm not one of them. ;)

It bugs me that I have to state obvious things.

    1. No one to my knowledge has said that Toyota should not get the truck working again. As best I can tell, there are two camps....the ones that say they should repair it, and the one that say they have an obligation to do more than that...(buy it back, give them a free something or other, upgrade them to a Pro. etc.)

    2. Where you live the squeaky wheel gets the grease, but if it is squeaking too much, it gets replaced I am sure.

    3. No one likes bad publicity, but these dealers have years of experience dealing with unreasonable people and they have learned that once the person crosses a line, its best to ignore them. Also if this worked, it would happen more often....how often have you seen it happen? Like lifetime totals of people protesting a place of business because of bad service either real or perceived........I am guessing close to zero.

    3. I still don't understand what your argument is.......I thought we were under the same understanding that Toyota through the dealer is going to uphold the warranty. So is your argument in this hypothetical situation.....that you want an upgrade to a Pro? Why stop there? Ask for a Tundra, or a Lamborghini........it does not matter.

    4. You want to stand on the corner and rant, no one is telling you not to, just some people will probably think its not going to work but take a swing at it, i just wish it was live streamed. Cover yourself in excrement if it makes you squeaky enough then maybe you get your Lambo, but count me in the group that thinks you just look like a crazy ass on the corner ranting about what ever. Im not going to stop and ask for you to explain the situation under any circumstance.

I'm not trying to insult you, and to my knowledge you have no reason to feel insulted since again.....the grievance, the protesting and the keys to your new vehicle all take place in your imagination, but I would still suggest to anyone in this situation that they are best served following a better thought out plan.
    • Document the issue, the pledge to make it right and dates etc.
    • Hold the team responsible for remediation accountable, use your documentation.
    • Inspect and reinspect the repair once complete, again documenting anything out of bounds.
    • Know the options if the issue is not resolved.

You and @BMH need to get a room or something. This was a lighthearted, fun thread until you guys started throwing your potbellies around.

OP here, no new Tacoma, but the dealership put me into a brand new Geo Metro, and I love it.

The Geo Metro is a nice sporty addition to his quiver of vehicles but honestly, the Tacoma was a poor substitute for his ol trusty Ridgeline for doin "man shit"

Since this thread has long ago gone off the rails I’ll add that I’ve always been a fan of Metro’s, mainly the three door hatchbacks. A house down the street from me has a dead one in their driveway I’ve thought about buying for no practical reason. My heart burns for that car...

Uh oh....if someone from NC is asking two men to get a room it's because they have a camera in there and a thumb in their butt.

    I say in a light-hearted way.

That sucks. But I fail to see the logic in how you are entitled to an upgrade to a TRD PRO because of this. IMO you don’t really deserve anything more than them fixing it. That’s what a warranty is.
