vF Tuner for the 3.5L Tacoma

    educate me on the relationship (s) between "primary Upshifting" and correlating "ECT Upshifting" maps. So I like a "TUNE" that provides power, performance. refined and expected shifting points, extra zip with ECT mode and S mode to make towing an option without reservation. I have used the "compare" function to determine differences between tunes - but so far it comes down to relationships, ratios and simple preferences. HELP! And BTW - GL is not what I am looking to utilize as a solution.

    Primary upshift/downshift tables are used in most conditions (D, 4H D, etc)

    ECT shift maps are used when you press the ECT button.

    I understand how ECT engages and works - just not sure when comparing ECT to Primary shifting modes how you maximize power and performance utilizing ALL gears in s mode v.s. without eliminating higher gears in s mode. ??

    If you are not utilizing gear lock with ECT power: Your S Mode shift points will be the same as your primary shift points with the exception that whatever gear you choose in S Mode is the highest gear the truck will shift into until you tell it. It will however downshift as it sees fit according to your primary shift tables. the reason why you're thinking Smode is gear lock is because once you depress the ECT power button it overrides the primary maps. You are not activating maps by switching to S Mode, you are just now controlling the ECT maps with the "manual" shifting.

    Have you found shift maps or throttle limit tables for each individual gear in L4 yet?

    Ok so noob here with tuning, I’m trying to download the vf tuner from @OVTune home page “yellow download button” go there the steps and before I get to the registration step I get this message and can’t go any on and won’t load.

    After spending many hours comparing your most recent (yesterday) performance_tow tune (with S 6 disabled) to an October release of performance_tow_extra_tip-in I found subtle differences (except for noted s mode 6th disable). I like the most recent because of tip-in but want to opt for enable of s mode 6th (don't ask why). I am / was looking for a scientific reason / method to relate the non-existing data for S mode upshift 5/6 as compared to Primary Shifting upshift 5/6 thinking that was the answer to re-able S mode (w/ect enabled) 5/6 upshift. Duh. More coffee.

    Look in the virus app section - disable all of them (Virus, firewall, app) - everything including all sub-topic items ( screen view...).

    Note: once you get it to load you can run the editing software - but to flash to your truck you will have to disable all noted MS Windows Security features, and remember to use the USB 2.0 port on your computer when flashing as USB 3.0 may cause a fail.

    Add that folder to the exception on Windows firewall settings.
    Dont need to disable anything

    It'll upshift to 4 at round about 29MPH with 6% throttle. And assuming the very bottom table is the unlock map, 21 in the cell isnt 21 MPH. Try something closer to 23.8 then your short story should work.

    One thing I'm starting to notice is that it may actually be throttle % being used by the table, not pedal %... Just a theory but it sort of seems that way.. Reason being is that pedal % can be up to about 5% before the throttle % actual starts to go above 0. So i can have 3% pedal and 0% throttle. The TC unlocks when this happens, as if my foot is off the pedal, but its not.

    @OVTune possible issue with vF for you to look into

    I'm on the most up to date version of vF and I've been trying to send a file to @rpete67 that I had initially key-locked. Went to go unlock it and it shows as unlocked for me. The key locked option isn't checked. But for him, it remains locked. I've tried re-exporting, exporting with a new file name...not sure what's happening. When I reopen the file it remains unlocked for me, according to vF anyway. No check mark. But I go ahead and zip it and send it off and it remains locked for him. :notsure:

    Question,

    do we really have to have 100 and 127 values in locking/unlocking tables?
    The accelerator or throttle dont even go more than 51 % (in least in my case). So if I set 55 for accel as a max, do I need to apply these to other gear tables? I saw that some folks expanded the axis. Do we need to apply the same # of cells to other gear tables?

    I think i see why was not getting lock/unlock working in 5th gear between 70 and 80 mph and accel 30 to 40.
    I did interpolate 5th gear tables from value 20 to 100 and got this. Orange is tc locking speeds.
    I'm a few Lucille's down, so locking at higher speeds and unlocking at lower or vice versa?

    Pedal vs throttle was a technical verbage mishap on my end. What matters is the Axis values on both maps relate to the same thing. That most likely being throttle %

    These axis values are the most difficult thing to accept. Hard to make sense of this when it doesn't make sense to begin with o_O
