My dealer says the aftermarket lift and tires may be the problem and they will only investigate under warranty if I return it to stock....oh and I used the same installer for a 4" lift they do for 6" lift. They are full of shit it did it off the lot. Mine is minimal but the warranty support on one of the worlds most well known to be modded trucks is fucking ridiculous for minor mods on a 40K truck! I got the sensor bullshit too....they work fine with a 4" lift and so does Adaptive blow me Toyota fuck your little sticker in the mail!

I have recently took my Tacoma (2019 TRD OR) for service and I mentioned that I was experiencing this vibration issue. They looked at it and confirmed the vibration and said they found a TSB for it (probably the one that has been mentioned in these forums, they mentioned work on the rear axle). They have had the truck for over a week now (apparently they kept getting the wrong parts in) and just yesterday they told me they were able to install all the new parts and then took the truck out for a test drive and the vibration is still there. Now they are having to bring in a Toyota field service tech to look at it. The technician at the dealer said he has never done this repair before. I have also called Toyota corporate who started a case for me, but there really isn't much more they can do yet.

So far this has been a pretty frustrating experience and at this point I am starting to loose hope that they will find a fix. But, I wanted to share my experience so far and I will update this once I know more.

Mine was built in Mexico 12/18 as well. I am seeing the same vibrations as others have described. I have 1200 miles on it and all stock. Worse during braking and really worse when breaking with the emergency brake only.

I have an appointment at the dealership to look at it next week.

UPDATE: The dealer said the work done via the TSB did not fix the issue. They ended up also replacing both back wheel bearings, which I thought was part of the TSB, but not totally sure. Anyway, it has been about 2 weeks since I got my truck back and so far the issue has been resolved.

I just took mine in this past Friday for the same exact issue, vibration when coming to a stop. It happens between 20-30 mph when downshifting.
I referred the service advisor to the 0023 TSB while I was waiting. About an hour later he comes back to schedule another service visit to replace the rear axles and other parts that weren’t specified and will be putting me in a rental for a day.
Will see if this does any good. I’m not too optimistic after reading the numerous threads on here about same issue from many other taco owners.
Upon reading more threads, I found one referring to yet another TSB (0071-19) that is concerning the leaf springs. I called my advisor back and mentioned it. He seemed to want to brush that one off until they did this repair on it.

Rumble strip vibration and torque converter problems are synonymous with Toyotas.
The torque converter clutch is grabbing too much during flex lock.
S3 and below cancels flex lock.
Put it in S3 and try duplicating it.

Hi everyone... question on this chain. I'm having the same issues on my '20 OR just like this, and I've been working with my sympathetic dealer who seams to be working on my behalf to get this resolved. They (Toyota) seems to be leaning towards a spring issue, which makes very little sense to me.

What I can't figure out is why they don't considering the possibility that it's bad bearings. From everything I've been able to figure out and compare, it sounds exactly like that's the issue. A previous poster said that replacing the rear bearings fixed the issue - is it still fixed? anyone else experience this same fix?

When I read this, many of the symptoms fit like a glove: https://www.knowyourparts.com/techn...earings/symptoms-of-a-worn-wheel-hub-bearing/

Do your trucks have the small shim under the leaf pack? Mine came from the TJ factory with a shim, never experienced any vibes.

Nope, got nothin'. I fail to see how a degree of rear pinion angle leads to shake while braking though.

my 17 OR seemed to do it a lot more before I installed my lift. No it’s only occasionally happening. Before I lifted i bitched to dealer and got the “can not duplicate issue” response.

I have, on a recorded conversation with the service manager: "... I wouldn't want to drive your truck...". They are a a little obligated now to get it right. I'm leaning towards a bearings. If it were off warranty, then I'd already have them ordered....

Any idea where I can buy these? Like Toyota "official" versions.

I have a 2020 TRD that is doing the same thing as all the rest of your Tacoma's. it has done the rumble since the 1st day thought it was normal. but now every time i slow down i just can't live with it knowing it is something wrong on my brand new truck . Now i will have to take it to the dealer and hope it will be fixed!

Not normal but a very common problem. My 2020 suffered from this and it was resolved with new rear brake drums at 1000 miles.

BTW... mine is "fixed" for now, although not 100%. The final fix was the dealer replacing the rear drums. Even though on the very first attempt, they turned the drums. In between the visits they: replaced all the shocks, full 4-wheel alignment, adjusted the front and rear spring tension (no idea HOW they did this...).

I say not 100% because although most of vibration is gone, there is still something. And now, I'm starting to suspect drive line alignment... It's WAY better than what it was, but still way worse than my 4-year old Chev with a lot of miles ever was. That was my biggest problem - all this money for a new vehicle - I want it to ride like new.

I know this is an old thread but I've got the same thing going on. Service nightmare with rear end vibration while braking. 2019 12k miles. Rear end vibe from 40-0mph. 5x at the dealer. They've resurfaced the drums after making someone ride with me. Didnt help and they made me take off my aftermarket wheels. Which had nothing to do with it. Last visit, again another tech rode with me, they replaced my leaf springs, axel shim and steering damper. Said it was fixed. Made it two blocks and brought it right back. Guess we'll see what they do this time. This is my 4th tacoma and I'm super disappointed with it and the service department.

It's not "old" if it's still happening. I've still got it going on with my '20. I drive so little now (thanks Covid! :( ) that I'm not as bothered. But it still get's under my skin each and every time I drive it. I've not taken it back again yet - I want an absolute: "Fix this problem by doing this" response to the dealer. Because they obviously could not figure it out on their own. I was hoping someone would say: this exactly fixed the issue. One post on here about new drums fixed it... but, I've already been through a set. I'm tempted to get myself a set of high quality aftermarket rear drums and maybe shoes to see if it helps... But I'm lazy, and have not taken that leap yet.

Searching around, the leading suspects are: drums. drive shaft alignment. bent/out of round axles. Or maybe just a crappy set of OE wheels. My problem is that NONE of these "apply" to the 2020 in any of the TSBs. It is a very early production run build, so I'm thinking that whatever it is, has some stuff on it from the '19 parts catalog. But, of course, Toyota denies that....

The shim makes sense. My '20 has done this since day one, but on two occasions where I had a couple hundred pounds in the bed, it decel'd and braked smooth as butter. Remove the load, right back to the rumble strip decel.
