Agreed. Today will be a long one. PS about the wiring, was just curious. I know you're in MA and I'm in RI. Looks like in general, replacing fixtures and bulbs doesn't need a permit but running wires does. So. Shhhh. o_O my shed has other issues anyway but, would be nice to fill in the dark spots of my lawn for the doggo and when I'm doing night-time leaf removal.

yeesh! that blows. Is the rav white?

I didn't have any damage, woke up to a small branch in the back yard and all my leaves blown into a neighbors lawn :D I did a truck bed full of leaves to the compost Saturday, but did a B- job at best for the yard. Just wanted to get some progress over time. Last night took care of a lot of it for me :D

Well that sucks donkey balls. Maybe use ground anchors next time? Or a diy deadman anchor with a sheet of metal or even a cinderblock or two buried below frost line with cable coming up to the structure. Or be baller and pour a concrete deadman below frost line.

Good. The white has a lot of paint issues, seems to be a thing across the toyota lineup, and seems to be a problem with some other Japanese makes too. Wouldn't want to see you have to deal with having to touch that up.

    @jpereira2 :poking:

I mean at that point might as well just pour a slab and build a garage :spending:

Dude the wind here was insane and woke me up around 10:30 last night. I thought I was going to lose my roof. Sorry you have to deal with your insurance agent!

Yeah, ground anchors are no good; it came with a set of 4 16-inchers and they pulled out with the first windy day we had after I installed it (Rav4 wasn't in it yet at that point) so I went to the rebar.
So after work I'm stopping at Home Depot for some Quikcrete, and I'm going to take the posthole digger and go as deep as it'll let me, pour a deadman at each corner, and cast the ground anchors into it. Then I'll run a cable (I've got some 1/4 galvanized I can use) from the ground anchor to the eave pipe on the tent. It'll be overkill, but I won't have to worry about it wandering around the yard breaking shit again.

Pft. I'm not dealing with anybody besides Ebay for a new mirror. It's the GF's 175k beater car anyway, so I'm not worried about the scratched paint. She'll call safelight for a new windshield and I'll put the cheapest used mirror I can find on it and call it good.

Adding another circuit is easy, and so long as you touch the mains (always hot even with the master breaker off), the panel that the blades of the individual breakers slide onto and you put cardboard over pretty much every area of the breaker box other than where you're working you should be ok. It really is as easy as popping a knockout off of the breaker box, run your sheathed wire ~1/2" or so into the box, then separate the individual wires and run 2 to the individual breaker, ground to the bus bar. For outdoors you just want to run conduit and get a waterproof conduit box in the shed. But pretty easy if you're just doing a basic outlet or light switch.
Meh a 2'x2' deadman would probably fine. I could figure out what's needed based on the size of the carport, but a 2'x2' deadman buried below frost line would be more than adequate. That's probably 2 bags of redi-mix per corner. Pretty cheap.

I already have a wire run to the shed. I'm just going to do junction boxes in the shed itself (might be able to pull it off with only one, might need two since I want to add a switch to one of the lights). Won't be touching anything at the breaker box this time around.

Fair enough, depends how much the soil sucks to dig. I'm used to boney shit where digging out for a post would make me want to murder someone. Let alone 4. Mostly I'm just jealous people have covers for their cars. My truck doesn't fit in the (one car anyway) garage :(

You need a permit for that? That's pretty minor stuff. I'd just do it if it was me...*

*these statements not endorsed by me if any local building department happens to be reading this...

I also am jealous of people with garages that can fit their truck/ suv...

    Yeah, she's loaded.

Honestly it has been a good car, though. She hasn't had to put anything into it for $$ in the 3 years or so that she's had it, always passes for a sticker with flying colors. Then she'll break the exhaust 6 months later and I weld it back together with spares I have laying around ( ), and the next time it goes for a sticker it passes again. But the bottom edge of the driver's door and the rear subframe are both getting pretty crusty so I think this is going to be her last winter with it. The door I could fix or replace pretty easily, but with the corrosion on the subframe I just don't see the point.

Same here, I'm comfortable with wiring, I'd just wire it. If you hire an electrician, they'd pull a permit and, to the letter of the law, you may need a permit for new wiring but permitting varies greatly by location.

I bought her the carport so that I could have my garage bay back. Last winter she kept occupying it with her Rav whenever it snowed (I was letting her, to be nice), so every time we had snow in the forecast I had to pull her Rav out of the garage, make a 4 point turn to get the Ram in to hook up the plow, and then make an 8 point turn coming back out. Then I'd park the Ram and put her Rav back into the garage. And then if it snowed overnight I had to go clear my truck off in the morning rather than just opening the garage door.

Around March I decided that I'd had enough of that, lol. With the plow on the nose I can back the truck in to my bay and it just fits. I've got like 6 inches at the back of the truck and maybe 4 between the plow and the garage door, but it fits

Roger dodger! Yeah I'm comfortable enough with wiring for something like this. Shouldn't be too bad.

Nice. With my old mazda that's about the fits with the metro rack against the back wall of my garage. I do miss having that in the winter :( BUT I would usually end up with a cord of wood in there come Jan/Feb anyway so I didn't have it for most of the snow the past few years. Truck is too tall to get in there, I THINK length wise, it would juuuuuust fit. Haven't measured it, but the height doesn't even let it in so :notsure:

Once all the firewood is out, I'm going to look at an outdoor firewood stash, and measuring and seeing what would need to be done to get the truck in. My wife's camry is basically nut to butt in there, so I have low hopes for the tacoma.

What kind of carport is it, one of the canvas ones or a sheet metal one?

Just a Shelter Logic tent-style unit. Nothing fancy. The covers usually last 3 or 4 years and then I start using tarps instead, lol.

I want a sheet metal/ aluminum one to cover the entire bas of my driveway. Maybe 20'x20' square. But i'd have to research setback requirements and such since the property line is right at the edge of the driveway. Could probably get a variance though since it's a town easement for drainage that abuts that side. On the other hand I live on a lake, and the house is only 50' from the lake. So doing anything outside is a major pain in the dick dealing with the conservation commission.
