This is only a fantasy build that would cost a fortune if one didn't have the know-how to build it themselves, but I'll ask anyway...

People have extended frames and built longbed doublecabs; They've also converted the automatic-only-from-the-factory 2001-2004 DCs to 5-speed...

I was wondering; If one were to build a "stretch" Tacoma using an entire double cab, and then graft the back end of an access cab onto the back, would the rear doors of the double cab line up with the doorjambs of the former driver and passenger doors of the access cab portion?

Why would I do this if I had unlimited money? Because it would give me a 4-door 1st Gen Taco with an incredibly roomy backseat! There would also be plenty of room to put a decent sub/amp enclosure back there too!

I got this idea from a tour I took of "Custom Autos by Tim" in Guthrie, Oklahoma back in March 2014; CABT stretches Ford Super Duty pickups using parts from rust-free southern trucks purchased at insurance auctions. CABT will also build "new" 2005-2017 Excursions by grafting the rear sections of totaled Ford Excursions onto Ford F250 and F350 pickups. The body parts match up perfectly!

Idk about the whole grafting thing but I have seen an 01-04 double cab with a long bed when I lived in Hawaii. Always wanted to do the same but sold my truck after moving and got a 2nd gen

I'd build one in a heartbeat if I had the money; I've even got access to a decent '04 access cab TRD Off-Road 5-speed with just 145K miles that has a new frame! I could buy a cab from a totaled double cab to do the extension!

Yes it could be done more grunt work then anything else.

It would handle like crap if you still kept the standard bed behind the cabs

In essence you would have a 4Runner

A 4Runner with a bed; Same concept as a Hummer H2 SUT but smaller...

So if one were to do this, you would recommend against doing a long bed...?

It would take some thinking to get a better idea .

Just how long the wheel base would end up

I've seen pictures of them before, but I still don't think that thread contains a "stretch" double cab...

Are you talking about grafting the *body* of the extracab onto the back end of a doublecab?

I think he’s talking about taking the “extended” part of an extended cab, and adding that to the back of a double cab. A double-extended cab with a long bed

Not that much of a stretch, though parking the truck I've envisioned might feel like parking that vehicle at times...
