Planning on Long Traveling my toyota for christmas

Christmas is around the corner and I think I'm going to bite the bullet and long travel my 1992 toyota pickup. I've been researching around and came up with a list of stuff I'm going to buy to make this all work out. I've estimated around $3000 for everything. What all am I leaving out? Things I should look out for? Is this something that I could do in 2-3 days?

- TOTAL CHAOS GEN II "CADDY" KIT (P.T. 9500)
- TOTAL CHAOS GEN II SHOCK HOOP KIT (TO MOUNT THE COIL OVERS)
(P.T. 95602)
- 2 KING HOSE RESERVOIRS COIL OVER SHOCKS 2.5 X 8" (P.T.PR2508-COHRS)
- 2 T100 AXLES TO RETAIN 4WD

If all goes well I hope to have long travel on my rig by new years

 

Sounds like a cool set-up. Talk to Pat at Total Chaos and see if there are any common wear items that should be replaced when you do the install.

Take lots of pics and we should go out together and test it out when its done since you down here in Tejas.

BTW Buy your shocks/kit from Sonny at Downsouth Motorsports. He saved me a ton of $$ when I bought my kit/shocks through him. He gives a great Tacomaworld discount as well.

 

Fenders? I think you might need em

 

Yeah I'm gonna need fenders but money tell's me otherwise. I'll get the fenders around the end of January lol. Hopefully I can get buy with out them for a month

whatever else you can afford from this page, buy it. your new suspension is going to bring out all the other weak points (stock) of the truck. i'd upgrade the lower ball joints to the uni balls and get the motor mounts as well. heim steering is nice too

I was looking at that page and found the shock hoop that I needed.
If I could I would get the lower uniballs and the motor mounts but god thats too much ha. If I just take it easy will I be ok with out that stuff for a while until I can save up more?

yes, if you take it easy then things should be fine but your going to want to push the truck hard cause with the LT you'll be able to. it's fun to go fast

LT is the gift that keeps on giving, by that i mean you keep spending money on it making it better or fixing it. it's a black hole

I'll def post a build thread on this. Not sure where it would fit in since i don't have a tacoma but i may just stick it in the long travel section I'm trying to decide what i want to do with the rear as I don't want to cut the bed or anything extreme like that.

What could I do for the rear temporarily until I get some more $ to do it properly (L.T.)? I don't want my front end to be up in the air and my back end to be the stock height ... leaf springs and shackles?

 

leaf springs and a good pair of shocks. dont do lift shackles

 

Ok no shackles got it. I've been looking around and a lot of people are using deaver leaf springs in the rear.

I went to deaver's website and found some springs.

All Models, 61-1/2", 3" Lift, Long Travel

This would go nicely as I'll be getting around 3-4 inches in the front. I'm also guessing this is just a bolt on leaf spring and I can use existing hardware? Or do I need to relocate shackles and stuff like that?

 

those are very nice springs but they require custom fab to mount. they will not fit into stock mounting locations

i dont think deaver offers a bolt on leaf pack for your truck, however you could have something custom made
