    IT’S ALIVE!

Chased the no spark issue on the ATC to a bad kill switch. Simple fix! The kill switch is a closed circuit that grounds out the ignition coil to kill the spark. That means that when it’s set to “run” the circuit is open. So I disconnected the switch altogether and I have spark and was able to fire it up. Luckily the rebuilt carb isn’t tuned so it won’t idle for long before it chokes out, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to turn it off. New kill switch is en route so until then I can just bask in the glory or a running motor. One of the o-rings on the carb rebuild kit didn’t fit quite right so it’s leaking but that should be a simple fix too. Got new decals and upholstery in the mail today so I’ll be painting it and it’s ready to roll!

I cant tell you guys how excited I am to hear this thing run. Last time I heard it was when I was ten years old.

I had already ordered a new coil and plug but they’re not here yet so at least I’ll have spares. I checked the points today and they were factory clean. The guts of the motor had clearly never been opened that lead to me to think that it was something else. I fell down the YouTube wormhole and saw them mention the open circuit kill switch on a quad so it got me thinking. Turns out that’s all it was. Now I need a new (better) rebuild kit for the carb just for one stupid o-ring. I had also hoped to reuse the original seat foam but it’s a lot worse than I originally thought and when I stretched the new upholstery over, it looked like a sack of potatoes. So one more small parts order and I should be good. But I can ride it in the mean time... Kind of.

I ordered most stuff from Beatrice so thanks for that recommendation. A few things they sent were OEM Honda parts so that was a nice surprise.

Wtf?! Why get rid of everything? Solo seats.....I looked at LePera.

Those Whiplash seats have good reviews, I just didn’t wanna pay the $70 shipping to Texas.

My fiancée is pregnant. We are expecting another little monster . So she is no longer riding. So I have zero need for what I originally had.. at least not for a year or more.

So, I figured.. why not. Let’s change the build.

Found the rattle culprit....either I lost a bolt or completely forgot one on install of the new pipes. Bolt that holds the pipes to the exhaust bracket. Had a bolt from the stock bracket, some loctite and boom! No rattle today.

Also tried some foam plugs on the ride today. World of difference! But almost takes some getting used to, I felt like one of my senses was gone for a sec....just gotta get used to it I guess.

    Get out and ride y’all!

    None... yet.
Rattles on any vehicle kick my OCD into high gear! Glad you found it!

As for earplugs, after I learned that any speed over 55-60 for an extended time starts degrading your hearing, I've worn 'em. Took a couple of weeks to get used to it, but now it feels very weird if I don't put them in. Also, I found the silicone ones fit better and goes in easier than foam...
