Update: Issue resolved. Hat’s off to Lakeside Toyota, Metairie, LA.
Recap: On the first visit, the code indicating a pump failure (not sure what that one is) didn’t come up, so they did everything but replace the pump. When i brought the truck back, it still only displayed the P2442. They dug into the pump and found broken fan blades. Despite not showing the “proper” codes, the dealership covered the pump replacement under the original extended warranty and sent me on my way as they work though the paperwork. Wanted to post this in case others with the warranty extension/recall runs into the same lack of code situation.

    Nice!

I was in the same boat. Got the recall notice and they did the valves and filter kit while it was there for an alignment, but didn’t replace the pump.

I had codes pop up a couple years ago but cleared them and they never came back. Hopefully the pump dies before December 2021 and I can get a new one installed before time runs out.

I take mine in 9/24, after an inspection last week.. They had to order parts, and service writer specifically said the pumps were back-ordered, just got in today. I hope this means they ARE going to just replace all and not just try to fix the pump that's been on the road for 9 years. Don't know how they'd verify the pump was ok w/o taking it apart anyway. But they keep the option ("as required') in the notice. So far no codes though.

Took it in today and they just did the pump repair/cover and well as the valves......hope that's it. I wanted a new pump but too much to ask for. I don't run it off road or in dust or too much towing... so hope it's ok. Got about a year and a half left (Jan '22) of warranty for it to show a problem.....

I believe this is now happening to me - 81k miles lol

I don't have a scan tool yet, so I can't confirm the codes, but I'm getting CEL + Trac lights, and today it just went into limp mode. Disconnecting the battery gets me back to normal for a couple days, but I suspect it'll be back. I'm hoping it's just a bad gas cap. =/

I also did the Unifilter mod a few months back, although I'm not sure that would be related.

Wasted 3 hours at the dealer today because of this problem. When I called to make the appointment they told me that they would order the parts so that they would have them. Not true. And since my appointment was over 2 weeks from when the codes started (P2440, P2442) they stopped. They will not replace any parts without seeing the codes so you must have your truck towed in on your dime and do without a vehicle until they get the parts and fix it. They are going to call me Monday about this and I think I will tell them to stick it and buy the parts myself and fix it and be done.

If you can, try another dealer if one isn't too far away. I had a recurring "pending " code and my dealer ordered the parts ahead of time sight unseen and did the repair no charge. I was surprised that they did this and quite happy that they did. Maybe I should have bought some lottery tickets the same day.....

Mine ended up being the air pump itself. Spent $250 and a Chinese Forwin replacement, and now it's all working fine. We'll see how long it lasts.....

Hey Crow Horse, yes it really got my bp up. They were more worried about my abs and traction control lights being on(I have that system disabled) and my aftermarket wiring(stereo and lights) than they were about the emission system. They told me they would have to put my truck back to stock to properly diagnose my truck. Toyotas do not like aftermarket parts and accessories. The funny thing is I can bring those codes up on my phone and even though they are not active, they show as permanent codes. After talking to the service manager for a few minutes I could tell I knew more about Tacomas than they did(including their techs).

I know what you mean. I was ready to go to war with them but I started out very cordial and I knew what I was talking about (hopefully). It was the complete opposite of what I had expected.

Yes I was trying to keep my cool but I started to notice my volume was starting to go up at times. I never told them that I am a full time mechanic at a small garage in Pottsville. I just ordered the parts I needed online tonight and they will be here by Friday, about an hour to install and my truck will be back to normal. It is not worth the aggrevation and all the wasted time(my next appointment is Nov. 14 which I will cancel). I don't have a ton of it but money isn't everything.

Filled up with premium in mine the other day, ya know, treat the ol slut. Threw another code

It went away on it's own after ~24 hours. She can have bottom barrel junk from now and I'll sing along to the valves.
Waiting for more on the 2.7, seems like 90% of the posts in here are you v6 folk. I want a delete so I can free up engine bay space!

Done in 1.5 hours, but then had to go back to the dealership. Got a phone call saying the tech may have left his flashlight in the engine bay, opened the hood and there it was. I went ahead and took it back since they’re only 5 minutes away.

Thats what the 2013-2015 guys were crowing about. Now they have the same problem and no warranty. That’s a shame.

That's a shame to hear, I thought the 2013 up trucks didn't have the issue since the pump ran after shutdown unlike the 2012 trucks. This is such a crap system, Mine went out at 29k and then again at 51k.
