That logic sounds like a steadfast catholic - uses the bible not for direction in life, but loopholes.

JK, but I have to agree with others - engine should be fine.

Engines aren’t as picky about viscosity as most people think. Just look at the specs for most Mercedes. They will list 3 or 4 recommended viscositys. If it were my truck I would just run it and put 5w30 in it next time. Just my opinion, you need to do what you’re comfortable with. It’s your truck and your money.

I stopped using the dealer because I was paying premium price and getting mediocre service.

0 20 is fine. It's not in the book because it wasn't around 14 years ago, at least not in common use.

Specifications change all the time. Many 'books' call for Dexron II in power steering and transmissions, and it's not been made in years.

    Things change.

If you're unhappy, let them change it again.

If you realize it's ok, get them to give you another 'free' change to compensate, take it in at 10k and go back to 5 30.

    I can’t speak of 0w-20
I didn’t notice anything to cause alarm when I ran 5w-20.
Firestone put it in my truck, I never noticed it until I read the oil change sticker.

And Yes, I let some one else change my oil.
For under $26 I can’t complain. I don’t have to lay in the gravel, clean up, or find a place to dump, the old oil.
No, I don’t know what brand oil or filter is being used.

Not necessarily you. Some of these guys go into these long explanations. “ dealer owes you now etc.” when the simple answer was you’re fine. Just correct it next oil change. Was more my point.

What does your owners manual say??? If 0-20 is ok then you are fine. You got a free oil change and you are good to go. If you’re unhappy just don’t go back to that dealer. But for now you are good til the next scheduled oil change.

    It is just money...
If you're really worried, pay for a change and make them reimburse you?

I hate oil threads but... I would drain and put in the 30 weight... I don't mind the 0W as this is the starting viscosity. I'm a little anal retentive about oil.

This thread has all the "sexy" themes and will go on almost forever:
    1. What type of oil to use
    2. Dealer stupidity

Most auto parts stores take old oil. Im glad you pay someone to change your oil if you are going to 'dump' it somewhere. I dont think most people would throw it on the ground just saying. Not saying you would do that either

    I wouldn’t, and I don’t.
My local “dump” aka Waste Center for trash takes oil.
That’s where I take the oil for my lawn equipment.
If you wonder why I change the oil in my mowers vs my truck?
    There’s about a $75 difference in price.
And I have 2 mowers. So you’re looking at $150 for service on the two.

Free Service Tire disposes of it for me now.

I know some people will find this hard to believe, but a lot of dealers(not just Toyota) stock ONE wt. of oil in the shop. Every car that comes in for an oil change gets that wt. You might be able to buy what you want from their parts dept. in qt. bottles, but the shop will have a 200 gallon tank with just ONE wt.

Just took your meaning of the "dump or finding a place to dump it" the wrong way. glad you didn't mean "i don't have a creek near by to dump it in" lol

I stopped using oil all together. I just stick a block of butter into the filler neck once a day. Seems fine.
