Can you site a serious study source that shows masks don’t work? And what was the mask wearing adherence rate for your country? And which country?

A lot of people here in the north leave theirs on when running errands since you’re told not to keep touching it over and over again, let alone stuffing it away in a pocket. Just easier to leave it on.

Now let’s redo the math using the current CDC death rate estimate which is far far less than 2%, and let’s review history of viruses to see that not everyone will get COVID and factor that in. Bad math and statistics start with bad assumptions.

I work in a major city ER, my wife works in a different hospital.. Neither of us clean the interior of our vehicles. Hand sanitizer after touching stuff that’s not yours, and don’t let people cough on you..

edit: Now, if I have a confirmed exposure that is a different story

I’m sure the reality of Covid is somewhere in the middle, and I’m trying to wear masks, wash hands and sanitize when it’s reasonable so as to err on the side of caution. The last thing I want to do is transmit Covid go my mom or someone else, or get my best friend sick. He runs a small local deli, and if he were to get sick — just one case — he’d have to shut down and it would end a 30 year local business that supports numerous families. So to me, it’s well worth it to do what it right to try any keep myself and everyone else safe... even if at times it seems like overkill.

    I wouldn't laugh at that!
they may consider themselves to be in the high at-risk category and should take every extra precaution that they can, even inside their own dwelling by themselves

see how the line is above 2%? That means MORE than 2% of people who get it die.
Okay, so let’s say half the country gets it, 3.5 million people dead. Still almost twice the deaths from all wars the US has been involved.

Far less than 2%? Not true. Please source your claims instead of just saying what you last heard on face book.:playball:

I believe the under 2% statistic comes from deaths from COVID-19 were the person had NO pre-existing Heath conditions.

I have no source, I could be very wrong, but I remember seeing it somewhere.

    Not trying to get into a shit storm or anything political here;

A N95 may be sufficient enough. But the moral mask and all these homemade material ones don’t filter enough. And that’s just assuming the person is even correctly wearing it. Particles from a sneeze can be sent 21 ft without a mask. Even with a mask they still can travel a few feet. Also if you can blow a lighter or candle out with a mask on, what’s that telling you?

even wearing mask, washing our hands 20 times more than normal, social distancing, sterilizing their home etc, people are still catching common colds and the flu all the mean while trying so eliminate the spread of covid. Think about that

So is your suggestion to not use these measures since it’s making no difference?

I don’t agree that people are still catching the common cold and flu at the same rate as before we started Covid precautions. I also believe doctors and scientists when they say specific masks and mask materials prevent the spread of Covid. If you’re blowing out a flame with a mask on then you’re not wearing an approved mask.

    Something else to consider,

From my understanding the virus can live on a surface for something like 2 weeks. So if you are near a positive individual and they sneeze/cough/touch near you, even if you a wearing a mask or n95, the virus is still very likely to be on your clothing or skin some where.

That’s the least likely way to transmit the virus though and if you’re washing your hands regularly and keeping your digits out of your nose and mouth the majority of the time the rate of transmission is very low.

I’m not saying they aren’t helping. They are in a lot of ways. I’m saying they aren’t 100% effective and no one truly knows the rate at which they are effective. In some ways they are actually a hinderance. It’s like anything. There are positives and negatives.

Who knows what the rates of the common cold/flu are or will be. I’ve been sick this year 3 times. Twice since been having mandated to wear masks. I wash my hands probably 20 times a day for the cdc recommended time. I try my best to social distance and outside of work this year there have been very little places I have went besides the store to get things I need. I’m young and in good health, usually only get sick once per year.

pretty sure those medical masks are “approved” and you could definitely blow a candle or lighter out wearing one of those. While those fit better than most masks they don’t completely seal your mouth/nose and the filtering material isn’t nearly as good as a N95. Not sure what they are rated at. The CDC has switch their recommendations a few times throughout this matter as well.

how about the eyes too? that is the hardest for me i am always rubbing them when the glasses get all fogged up
i have to resort to other means of keeping the covering over my face with my hand leaving me with use of only one hand (left one usually), its very challenging to check out at the supermarket, convenience store, etc. like this

You can absolutely blowout a candle with an N95 due to the exhaust valve, but that is also not a mask meant to protect those around you. I always get a couple of colds every year and I've yet to be sick thus far. I don't think anything is 100% effective outside of locking yourself in your house, but I know masks work and if everyone wore one we'd be a lot farther along in this thing in a good way.

I was talking about the N95 masks without a valve. Locking yourself if you house would only work if you were self sustained. If you were having items brought in you’d still be at some type of risk due to surface contamination. Masks help no doubt. We’ve had to wear them here since pretty much the start. Hopefully these vaccines come quick and are effective and we can return to normalcy.
