For whats its worth: While doing my internship with VW in Germany during the late 90's we would run regular dyno oil at 15.000km's or change once a year. Aren't a lot 3.5's with high miles getting gasket issues?

All highway miles. I change oil about every 8 weeks. Back when I had my gen 2 I ran it as much as 20k before , never had any issues. Oil always looks great coming out.

My 2020 only has 1500 miles on it, but im really not concerned with engine life. I anticipate running into significant electrical issues (from all the infotainment and safety stuff) before any major mechanical issues. But thats just me.

The highest mileage guys will be the ones that arent on this forum. Those trucks are sure to be the fleet owned SR's.

Usually drain the oil for my vehicles and send it to Blackstone to get an analysis done for 2-3 oil changes to get a feel for how long the oil lasts before it starts breaking down and then dial in my changes based on that. 20K for synthetic is definitely in the range.

I had major electrical issues with cluster dead, door locks not working etc at sub 1000 miles. 2nd Toyota and prob the last one for me also. Fuel pump recall and frame rust etc are something that should be ironed out at this point.

Yeah or some of the hotshots that drive coast to coast and have no time to discuss things like we do.

I should have specified the 3.5L. That 2.7 is obviously a bullet. Man! Those things are killing it.

    Working on it ...
1988 Toyota Pickup (pre Tacoma but I think SR5) - 177,000 miles. I prob still be driving it if the bed wasn’t looking like Swiss cheese. Cab was still in great shape. Ran as good as the day I bought it when I got rid of it.

2000 Tacoma - 109,000 miles, got T-Boned by kid driving an Audi and totaled it. But running great before that.
    22069672-B922-4FE5-9762-4A47ED137ACA.jpg
2002 Tacoma TRD Off Road - 213,000 miles, blew a head gasket so I traded it in.
    16306004-7BCF-42CC-9A68-E28896B647AC.jpg
2019 Tacoma TRD Sport DCLB - almost 19,000 miles on it. Runs great to date, but only almost 11 months old. Happy with it so far.
    A7CCD7FA-FFD1-429B-A8B1-B86114E41364.jpg

That’s over a half a million miles all totaled. I would buy another one without a second thought if I had to.

I'm always blown away by how much some people stay at home.

2018 OR purchased in July 2018. Now has 57,000 miles on it. The states out West are rather big, and there's a lot to see.

Luckily, I dont stay home much. I split all of my driving time between my Tacoma, my Mustang GT, and my motorhome for boating, trips and vacations. My retired neighbors hardly ever drive, their cars hardly ever move. They must be really low miled.

My 2017 V6 OR with 6MT has just over 61K miles. I change engine oil & filter at ~15K intervals, I use 100% synthetics.

Many years ago, I had a 1980 Hilux 2WD with 20R engine, 4 speed MT. It was 6 years old with around 80K miles when I bought it, I ran it another 10 years and eventually sold it with just shy of 200K miles on it.

What still frustrates me to this day, is that both those trucks got almost exactly the same fuel economy. About 18 - 19 MPG........
