We weren’t allowed to have TVs in our rooms. My parents didn’t even have one in their room. Even now a days I don’t have a tv in my bedroom.

I remember watching the Three Stooges on that B&W TV In the morning before going to school.

I had a couple friends whose families only had one TV in the entire house, and they were not the least bit poor so I absolutely couldn't wrap my finger around this since we always had at least two TVs in the house.

I don’t think we will allow our daughter to have a tv either. She only gets about an hour or so a week now

I have a tv in my man area and my wife has a tv in the family room on the main floor. She watches what she wants(has a Japanese tv box) and I watch what I want on mine.
I have a few friends like that. I have to have complete quiet and darkness. Also needs to be nice and cold. Even in the winter I sleep with the window open and no heat in my room.

By the way, my mom bought me the aforementioned 13" Emerson TV/VCR combo because of my autism; We had a lot of relatives over in July of that year, visiting because my dad was promoted to Commander and there was a change of command. Most of the relatives stayed in hotels, but we had at least half a dozen relatives staying in one single-story house in addition to me and my parents!

    :annoyed:

I love my family, but it was quite overwhelming for an autistic 12-year old to have so many people in his house! It's not that they weren't welcome there, but it was MY HOUSE and I was used to doing things certain way. Then, all of a sudden I'm sharing my bathroom with six other people, sharing the kitchen with six other people, etc, etc...

And then there's the issue of the TV; On a typical summer day when I wasn't outside playing with my friends, I would be relaxing on the family room couch watching Nickelodeon. My dad would be at work, and my mom would either be in the kitchen or watching TV in the master bedroom or the den, so I had the "good TV" (meaning the biggest TV in the house) to myself; It was a 32" Sony Trinitron. I'm an only child, I have Asperger's, and I'd never had to share the trusty Sony Trinitron with so many people in my life. When I had to give up evening cartoons so one relative could watch the news, another relative could watch some stupid soap opera, or another wanted to watch sports, I got pissed!

I forget what the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back was, but I had the inevitable meltdown after a "this is MY house" disagreement with a relative. My mom did not get mad at me, but instead realized that I needed my own space to unwind away from all the chaos. She drove me to Walmart within a day, and I picked out the 13" Emerson, which was on sale for $140. She didn't deduct my allowance; She said this my TV, and if I ever felt overwhelmed, I could go and watch cartoons or a movie in my room. My bedroom already had a cable jack in it, and while we did have a cable box in the family room, this was still the period of time when you could plug a TV into a cable jack without a lousy cable box and get basic cable if your house had service! I knew my room had a cable jack, and this played a major role in my mom's decision to buy me my very own TV.

And the Stooges were shot in B&W anyway, so it didn't really matter!

House during the day is 66° and at night it goes down to 63° in the winter and fall. Summer it’s 70° and 67°. But I sealed the vents in my bedroom in the winter so it gets no heat in there. My master bathroom only has one vent and it’s big so I put a space heater in there for the wife.

What does the wife think of no heat in the master bedroom?

We have a vent in there but the builders should have put two. The vent is in the toilet room so if they door is closed then no heat gets to the main part of the bathroom. That’s why we have a space heater in there

My parents' bedroom has two vents, and the upstairs system (our house has one A/C and furnace for the 1st floor and a second system for upstairs only) has two filters, one of which is located in the master bedroom; I've looked at newer houses for sale in Oregon online, and a lot of them have gas heat with the house set up to have central air added if the owner chooses, but are generally NOT built with central air...

Your house a heat pump and a gas furnace, right? Dual-fuel/hybrid heat?

A heat pump is actually cheaper to run if it's above freezing...

A lot of people do dual-fuel systems around here if there's public gas available; They don't want to only have propane for heat (which is more expensive than natural gas), but they don't want all-electric either. So, they get both; A lot of people with oil heat also get a heat pump because heating oil is so damned expensive!
