Building gatekeepers or dumbing obstacles down(like Little Sluice) isn't the answer. Holding people accountable for their actions is the answer. Instead of an outpouring of support and sympathy these guys should receive hefty fines and public shame. But I'm old school and a bit of an asshole. lol

I'm not saying that a recovery shouldn't be performed. I'm saying they should pay for every penny of that cost. I don't for a second feel bad for the situation they put themselves in. I would also be the first to go recover them if I was close. Sounds contradictory but it's not. If you need help I will always give it to you. That doesn't mean I also won't give you a ration of shit for being a dumb ass.

I agree with you, these dudes should have asked for help long before they were 10 hours into a 3 mile trail.

I read through the FB posts and they all hot off Gold Mtn safely, but some of the rigs took damage. Folks were on the way to help, but I'm not sure if they got there in time to actually help.

I feel like that is a little bit of an extreme statement. They are like 3 miles from town. Might be a miserable walk but they aren't in imminent danger by any means.

Probably, but wet and cold in 7 degree weather is not a fun walk. They are lucky that people are willing to risk their rigs for people they don’t know.

People with more experience than I, I’m changing out the driver side CV axle and the cheepo autozone axle I bought doesn’t have a dust shield for the inner CV seal. I pulled the pesky thing off the old CV and am attempting to put it on the new axle but to no avail. Should this axle, made by duralast, have come with a dust shield? I’d rather not have the inner seal leak and it seems imperative that the shield be there to mate with the seal.

ive used the cheapo autozone cv axles for years with no issues or leaks but truth be told I don’t remember if it had the dust shield or not I just know I used both sides right out of the box as they come.

    Best of luck though

The issue I'm having is if this flange isn't there, the seal mates with nothing because their is no other surface for the seal to ride on. So I'm getting ready to drive over and see if their other axles have the flange like their supposed to.

Oh gotcha! Ya your best bet is probably going to autozone and seeing what the other ones look like

Every youtube video, diagram, and every brandname axle I've seen has had the dust shield, and the OEM doesn't fit, so I do not understand how I could supply my own? Going to go either exchange or refunded for the axle now.

Sorry no help here with the dust shield. If you're going to return the autozone axles, you could consider CVJ remans so your dust cover will fit.

I just got back, they exchanged the axle for me and I checked the new axle and made sure all the parts were present before I left. They said it looked like the first axle I got from them was a return/warranty axle. Crazy how they sold me a returned axle as new but at least they made it right.

I like the CVJ axles, but I went cheap since I just need it to last me about a year until I can throw some dirt king 3.5 axles in

I've run parts store axles for a couple years before I got OEM remans from Toyota recently (basically the same thing as CVJ...reman OEM axles), the only issue I've had with the parts store ones is that the boots are crappy compared to OEM quality. If your lift has the boot fins touching at all, the parts store ones will start to leak in no time

Anyone know if any of the OC trails are open right now? Looks like most are just wanted to double check.
