    Personally, I love my DCSB.

Perfect for carrying the family in the back and has enough space for everyone
IMO, Access Cabs look a bit weird.

Question: Do access cabs have sunroofs?

So after 11 pages the argument for an AC seems to boil down to "I have no friends" ;)

I love my DCSB, I don't mind the proportions and 4 doors is a lot easier when you're hauling friends to the ski hill or the trailhead. The logical question then is why not a 4Runner? There's a few reasons we went with a Taco when it was time to upgrade:
    • I can mount a RTT over the bed and still fit in my garage, and have next to no impact on gas mileage
    • It's a lot easier to haul mountain bikes, skis, paddleboards etc by just tossing them in the bed than trying to wrangle a roof or hitch rack on the 4Runner
    • a 5ft bed still offers a hell of a lot more storage than a 4Runner trunk. Plus I can hose it out so no worries throwing muddy gear and such back there.
There's always the DCLB but if you do any even slightly serious offroading the breakover angle on these trucks is already bad enough. My poor mid skid and sliders take one hell of a beating.

Honestly, the proportions of a DCSB aren't actually bad at all

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
For me a 5 foot box is useless. With my access cab I can have long box with shorter truck length. I am used to 8 foot boxes on full size pickups. For work, hauling, and a lot of remote offroad trips and I pack a lot of gear in the back for those trips. Also, the DC with long box has a 13 inch longer wheelbase, which for me offroad is a no-go. Shorter wheelbase and overall length a must for my type of offroading, a lot of deep washouts and bumper dragging and often no turnarounds in the deep bush so a lot of back and forth many times just to get turned around, bashing the front and back of truck on stumps. This is my 4th 4x4 over 35 years and they have all been used offroad, at least 4,000 miles per year on eaxh truck. Of course can’t beat the short wheelbase of a jeep for offroad, but the limited storage space in a jeep is a big deal breaker.

So for me, nothing to do with looks, just need a truck that matches my needs.

This is all it really boils down to. We can talk about which is better all day long and just spin our wheels, but at the end of the day, it is what YOU want and what needs you have. A good debate is in good fun though.

Don’t need the back seat. Don’t need the jump seats. Need the MT. Have the AC SR Utility.
    Perfect match, for me.

I like the look of access cabs but with 3 kids double cab was my only option.

See, that tundra is fine if you need the longest truck in the world that seats 8. But anecdotally, most of the people I know with crewcabs don't have a crew

I needed more bed and less passenger carrying ability. I don't want a truck that is longer than necessary and is generally a pain to manuver in traffic or park. I have no desire to be a taxi service for my friends. I think the double cab trucks look out of proportion with that postage stamp sized bed and they are too long for me when they have the long bed.

My '21 Off Road Access Cab with the six foot bed is the exact truck I wanted.

Because if you’re over 6’, 200lbs a full size truck is much more comfortable. If it wasn’t for the price of gas/fuel economy I would be driving full size again.

I've had both, 1st gen and 3rd, I like the looks of my 04 better but like you I have dogs and no kids and the extra room for the dogs works for us, and I wanted the pro, so dbbl it is.

Sometimes less equals more, if I had your truck I would pull the SX decal, install white letter tires and call it perfect. Slick ride

I guess an AC would look a bit weird to you if you’re newer to Tacoma’s. If you’ve owned them over the generations then you would probably have the opposite perception.

With a family, I think a double cab would be absolutely essential if the taco had to be the primary vehicle. Or if your other ride is a minivan and you want to do lots of outdoorsy shit with the fam.

Hey @angerbot... Do your ‘friends’ give you gas money? Uber? ;)
