not to rain on your parade, but my family has several minis and they are absolute junk. The computers are constantly going out and the computer modulated clutch feels terrible to drive. It has no feel whatsoever. We have a mini countryman and a clubman s.

That being said, my mom and sister who drive them absolutely love them beans out of them. The club and S is a lot of fun for about half an hour but as a male, after that half hour is up I am no longer comfortable due to anatomical layout. Lol

Anyways, that's my two corroded pennies worth of opinion. :D

Yeah, I drove my roommate's stick mini a few years ago and found it surprisingly less BMW-like than I expected. Sort of like how my first (and only) drive in a Miata was a significant letdown. I guess it'll have to be a 911 if I ever get rich :)

Yeah Minis are not known for quality or reliability. I bought my '11 in 2017 to replace my '99 Volvo. A Mini Cooper was my dream car after BMW brought them back just before I learned to drive.
I actually started eyeing Tacomas around 2012-2013, but I could not yet afford a reasonably new / good condition Tacoma yet in 2017.

The Mini was affordable. While needed its share of repairs over my 3 years of ownership, it was all easy stuff I did myself. No computer or electrical issues for me. I knew I was pushing my luck as it got over 100k miles as that's about all the longer they seem to last. Around 110,000 it overheated and cracked the engine. Minis don't have a temp gauge so you don't know until the overheat light starts flashing and coolant is boiling over.

I thought it was fun to drive, but I also haven't driven that many different cars haha.

So I wasn't necessarily trying to start a Mini Cooper parade, just stating that they still make stick cars, and stick cars matter.

My buddy had a manual mini broke more than my 2 stroke ski but it was a f*cking blast to drive and split lanes

I did the same thing. Drove from Albuquerque to Salt Lake to pick up my 2018 Pro. Good price too.

Just got my 20 Sport MT :) :) ....quick q,,, can I change the settings in the manual so when i unlock, it unlocks all doors....I don't see it in settings? In the tips for 3rd gen thread it says you can but can't seem to find where I am being pointed too, so was thinking maybe different in MT since we don't have remote connect etc...??

It’s in the vehicle customization options in the head unit (at least it was in 2017). Otherwise you can change it with Carista / techstream.

I looked on my 2020 and I think this is how you get there - Menu button > Setup > Vehicle > Vehicle Customization > Door Lock Settings. I think it is probably the "Remote 2-press unlock" option and you want to set it to Off, or at least that is my best guess (they don't have the best wording, so some options are hard to tell what they mean).

Otherwise, as @Shellshock said you can use the Carista app or TechStream as well, though the wording in them isn't necessarily much better sometimes and they cost money (ok well TS kind of doesn't, depending how you get it).

On TS, there is sometimes a bit more description in the info box on the bottom of the Customization window.

I don't remember this set of customization menus being available on my 18 sports head unit. I'll have to check it out at work during lunch.

That being said, techstream needs a new UI. It's not 1996 anymore

I learned shifting on a mid-seventies Mini Cooper. It was a harsh mistress!

All workshop programs are like that. They're mainly meant for touchscreen use on low res, rugged computers. You can't beat free though!

At least it doesn't look like old DOS programs with just text on a black screen!

Old job actually had emulator software default boot on all the computers so the POS system was green text on a black screen. If you took a second to figure out navigation, it was all a lot of fun. Made me feel very matrix ish when looking up customer profiles, skus, and hell it could interface with outlook and dump emails (text only) Into the green screen system.
