Hey guys, I would appreciate some help here. I’ve been looking for a manual V6 extended cab 2nd gen for a while now, and I just found this truck. The exterior and interior are in very good condition. Only problem is it’s an ‘06, and the obvious rust issues that come with these trucks. These are super hard to come by for a good price with under 100,000 miles so I was really excited to find this one. I would really appreciate your opinions on this frame rust. It’s really not that much worse than my ‘09 regular cab but I know the early models have rust problems. Thanks in advance!

    On a scale of 1 - 10 (1 being a new frame and 10 being it's so rusted you shouldn't even drive it), I'd rate it a 6.

That’s pretty helpful. I’m just so reluctant to let this one go because it’s really a unicorn. Total base model with crank windows and everything but with a V6, and for a decent price. I still need to ask if the frame has been replaced and to see a carfax

Unless the deal was too good to be true, I would agree with spitdog and pass. It looks like there are multiple areas that have more than just "surface" rust and could pose structural probs.

I know it looks concerning but I don’t wanna write it off too quick. Appreciate the input.

Yeah, good point. The deal is pretty good for the current market when these trucks are going for $18,000 with well over 100,000 miles. I know these frames rot inside out so that’s my main concern.

if you have the vin, a toyota owners account can tell you if the frame was replaced any what other dealer work has been done.

definitely check around the cats for rust holes. that looks way worse than mine before my frame was swapped

Wouldnt touch that much rust with a 10ft pole. Guaranteed LCA's are seized to the frame, frame you can see is already rust flaking..... NOOOPE.

Also COULD be in the early 06's head gasket issues (i think late build dates in 05 still had this issue) and that can be verified on the door panel sticker

Thanks for the info, I forgot about the head gaskets. Really sucks but I think I’m gonna have to let this one go. Makes sense it’s a Minnesota truck

    Pretty much stock right now
I waited to buy until I found a TRD with a replaced frame. It took months. Here in the northeast we are very familiar with the rust issues. All 4 of my 1st gens succumbed to it. It’s impossible to approve a frame by pictures alone. It takes a physical inspection to make the call. Preferably by a dealer familiar with the matter. My ‘03 looked way worse than this one but was solid until a few years out of warranty.

    How much?

    I mean, if it’s $1000, it’s worth a shot. If it’s $15k, it’s a no

I wouldn't spend more than $2,000. This truck is borderline unsafe. There are plenty of other 'unicorns' out there.

NOPE. Dont look at 05's, or 06's. Mines a late year 06 with the updated head gasket, i got lucky as hell. i wouldnt even look at 05-10's honestly unless the frame has been replaced.

My ‘09 is totally fine and it’s a damn near perfect truck. I think they fixed the frame rust issues in ‘08 appreciate the input however
