Got a guy with dogs coming. There were 3 different matted spots where he bedded a few feet apart with some blood in them. It was still bleeding when it got up. Jogged maybe 20 yards then walked a bit with a gimp pretty much everything in there is level ground.

I'd say that's a dead deer. Just needs some time. I'd wait as long as possible. Maybe going in at dark, if possible. I think you have a solid chance of recovery. Be interesting to see the post mortem.

Went back in around 1:15 so six hours from shot with two dogs. They followed his track almost right to him but got distracted by other deer they jumped. We got them back on his track and they found him. He was still alive but they stopped him and we killed him. Small 7 point but it is the biggest buck I have killed and it was on Mississippi public land.580A62C5-C6F5-4D7C-BE41-0E42865C1A03.jpg
In all honesty I hit right around where I was aiming. Maybe a hair back from where I wanted but I previously thought that this shot placement would be double lung. Hit liver and mostly guts. This is exit he was ever so slightly quartering away.D02FA2D5-E2D7-4F2B-9384-7F233A3411B5.jpgEntrance is hard to see but here right above the dogs neck.B2DD4A86-CEFE-49A4-9113-F4C689445058.jpg

Congrats and a win on so many levels. Getting a shot at a public land deer- always a win. Finding it after many hrs- awesome and a huge win. Filling a freezer with some amazing meat- huge win. Having a memory and a story to tell for years to come- huge win again. Thanks for sharing.

I have a camera out that I never hunt anywhere near due to high hunting pressure. Haven't checked it in a month and a half, until today.
