If you're looking at the 4.0, 2007+ is the way to go. 2003-2006 has headgasket issues (ask me how I know)

It was from the 90's through 03 or 04. I can't remember but if it hasn't by now, probably not an issue.

And I refuse to join a Jeep forum. I tried the TcBob Jeep forum but it was extremely slow paced.

I wonder what would happen if I submitted a picture

The first, and arguably hardest, step is admitting you have a problem. lol

Not fully true. Head gasket issues were present in ‘05 and ‘06 4.0s too. Danny’s Taco is an ‘06 and his went bad not too long ago.

MET run today. Myself, my brother Jason, and my other brother Jason. Had to get to 7000 feet to find consistent snow. Still, when it was falling, it was a mixture of snow and rain. Fun Hump Day adventure.

It's true. If I'd said it went through 2010, that would not be true but since I owned a 4Runner that blew the gasket, I can be reasonably sure of the start and what I thought the recall notice said was the end period. There have been reports outside of the original recall period and some speculation the problem would recur even though new parts were used. I stopped following that cause I got something else...

Sorry man hope I didn’t ruffle your feathers. All I meant to say was that head gasket problems were (and still are) a thing in ‘05 and ‘06 Tacoma’s with the 4.0 too. Your comment made it seem like no models after ‘04 had issues, so I said “not fully true” because of that. Didn’t account for the actual warranty/recall talk if that was what you were implying.

2003-2006 4.0L 1GRFE engines are known to have headgasket issues around 150-175k. I have a 2006 and my HG blew on my way through Yosemite. 90's-03/04 was likely for the 3.0 and 3.4, but I'm specifically referring to the 4.0

My 1994 4Runner with the 3.slow had the head gasket issue. Sadly, I never knew about it until it happened. Thankfully when it blew I shut the engine down immediately. Saved the head.
