With synthetic (NOT petroleum), it's up to the owner and oil manufacturer (for warranty) about how often to change it. But many miss a huge point about why to keep it in a little longer.

    Cost

Some talk only about finding it cheap, but look at this simple math:
In 25,000 miles changing oil every 5,000.
    6 qts @$2.50 ea = $15.00 x 5 =$75.00 ; 5 filters @ $3.33 ea = $16.65. Total in 25k = $91.65
(also consider having to recycle the 7 1/2 gallons of used oil and dispose of the oil containers (5x = 30 bottles & 5 filters!))

    6 qts @ $6.25 ea = $37.50 : 1 filter @ $8.68 ea x 2 = $17.36 (change at 12.5k). Total spent in 25k = $54.86.
(one time used oil disposal (1 1/2 gal), 6 bottles & 2 filters)

That is almost $37 which I can now spend on my girl (or truck mods - shhhh). And as long as my 50 years of maintenance experience (personal, military, & airline A&P), Science, oil manufacturers, and others more smarter than me say that the oil can take it without any detrimental effects, I'm going for it --- and saving money & mother nature to boot!

The $2.50 and $3.33 prices came from others in this thread. Not me.
Mobil 1 advertised 25k oil change intervals (among other brands). This isn't about my brand.

Interesting....I never thought about keeping the oil in longer, but changing out the filter more frequently. Something to research a bit more.

Probably started around 1975 or so. Synthetics for autos (as opposed to turbine engines) has been on the market since 1972. I started using it in '79 and was doing 25k with 12.5k filter changes then. And have ever since.

M1 5w-30 oil only. Toy filter, ebay for the filters.
For real info consult.. They are the best when you find every damn last pieceof knowledge with oil and filters.
I've used M1 in every vehicle I own now since the 90's.

I use Mobile 1 full synthetic one all my cars. Decent price and a high quality product.

I have been using Toyota oil filters.

I typically change my oil every 7.5k miles. Earlier if the car/truck sees dirt/dust often.

Always Full Syn oil for me.

Typically, 5w30. Quaker or Pennzoil. Not Mobil 1, they a too proud in pricing.

Then a WIX filter at every change.

    Change interval....about 5000 miles.

Just use a good quality full syn and filter, then follow the change intervals. You'll be fine.

I might push to 7 or even 10 under the right circumstances.......25 no way.

Your choice on that long of an interval.

Do you use an oil analysis to monitor the oil condition? If so, how frequently for the analysis? Cost?

If you are hung up on price you need to look at Kirkland Brand full synthetic at Costco. If you are dumping it at 5k you are pissing money away, but it feels like you are doing something I know

just for the record we use mobli1 5w30 and Toyota YZZD3 purchased by the case via EBay.

and yes Bob is the oil guy
