Did wood all day. Just acquired an “in” with a small 5 man wood service company. They have no need for any wood they bring down. So we get the location, cut and haul. This was all oak. Never loan your saw to anyone. Instead, offer to do it for them.. you can either do it, or put it off forever. Either way, your saw remains intact, and no one gets hurt.

    I totally agree with this.

Besides, most of those that don't own a saw don't know how to properly use one. I'd hate to have someone injure them self with my saw.

Chain question. Installed a new chain, ran outside for about 25 seconds, blipped the throttle couple times just to run the chain around and seen sparks at the nose of the bar.... note: never ran a saw in the dark so I don’t know.... maybe new chain seating in? Chain is the right dimensions as the factory chain. I held both chains together to see if I could see any difference between the 2 brands. Nothing I could see different. That was before I installed it. What say the professionals?

Is the bar oiling properly? My bar sparked when it wasn’t getting proper oil.

I got home from work last night and decided to use the 261 to finish flush cutting the stumps from the other week.

I have a half a gallon through the new saw and my new chains came in and wanted to run one this coming Sunday...comparing chains with brother joes... we have the same saw. I set the oiler to max oil when I first got it and the new chain seems well oiled which may cause sparking and or the chain seating in possibly.... I could be over thinking this just because it’s dark out? Chain seems to fit perfect on the sprockets.

I would make sure your bar is clean and that the oiler is properly lubing the bar then grease your sprocket tip. If adjusted properly the I would check the drive links. Sometimes a drive link is off and needs a little adjustment. Take a look at the chain and check for unusual wear. Some chains do spark a little but you will want to check the above just to make sure. The last thing you want is to flare or ruin a bar due to the chain not seating correctly.

I just bought this year Stihl wood boss for camping.

first chain saw. I wanted to go middle grade and get more of lower end professional saw.

New chain* practically new saw* I may add a little bit of grease for break in... I did install another *new “factory” chain just to check fit and have a look to see if I could see any difference... nothing. Only difference Iv seen is the actual noise of the chain when running it by hand. The original chain which is broken in sounded very smooth on the bar. BOTH new chains, the Oregon and the factory husky chain both sounded as if they need to be used to sound smooth. I’m pretty sure I’m making to much of a deal out of this. I just don’t want to keep waking up the neighbors looking for sparks!! ;-)

Haha yep! Keep the neighbors happy. I have had a new chain or two where the master link was off when they riveted it together. It threw the whole system out of whack. If it doesn’t break in or feels really gritty I would take the chain off and just check for unusual wear.

I looked at the 261cm before I bought the husky 550xp mark2 . Both were the same price but after using my brothers 550 and the word of mouth by the dealer I bought it from ... I waited a month and a half due to COVID and the tree company’s buying them out. Don’t regret the purchase. 20” bar eats up that oak we did last weekend and we have a full day of it come Sunday...

I bought a Husqvarna a few years ago on account of two Stihl string trimmers that were junk (46fs one dad's, one mine, a poulan was much better and more reliable).

Anyway, the 440e gets used mostly for camp work day or pulling a deer deep in the woods. It was used pretty hard this last year. It's particular about how you start it, but start it the way it wants It's pretty reliable.

I have learned to just drain the bar oil after use..... otherwise it'll leak out.

If it doesn't leak bar oil then its not a proper chainsaw.

I have the older 440 no E and well I have an air leak when it gets used hard... 10 minutes into cutting and idle raises, runs leans and shuts off... 10 minutes after it cools off, starts right up... lol I gave up on it and bought the 550.. soon to diagnose the air leak.
