It is interesting to note the handle change from their prototype (same commercial folding metal t-handle my ARE DCU shell had) that has solid metal rods on the back side of the door as the latch...

The new latch is much nicer and with changing to a cable actuation allows them to easily place that latch ANYWHERE on the door - not just in line with where the latches are.

Note that both of these handle/latch interfaces allow you to only deal with ONE motion to open the door, unlike the GFC (two little flip out latches per door) or Drifter/ARE/Leer/et al with the two separate Bauer t-handles.

The photo here (source) doesn't actually have the metal rods installed to the handle which slide through the holes on the sides of the door and behind/inside the main frame to keep the door closed and secured.

Here's how they look when fully assembled and functional (from my old ARE DCU):

While a deicer is good for when the lock core freezes and you can not unlock a latch, I do not want to be spraying deicer all over everything to try and get ice to melt and have it drip onto the tent/handle/truck/et al.

Sure, but it works in a pinch - I've done it. I also keep a propane torch in the back seat for this same purpose. I think I've got close to a year combined sleeping in my topper in winter - the system is rather dialed ha!
