Charlie i know you have a bunch of spotted threads but I don't care to show all of these photos off, I just thought you'd appreciate them.

My local dealership has a show floor and these are some of the vehicles on it.

When l bought my house this is what i was greeted to in my garage, he was a hoarder and had the entire garage packed from floor to ceiling and took me 14 days to throw stuff in a massive dumpster. I made this area into my workshop, looking back at the picture l am blown away by the transformation to what it is today.

:santa: :santa2: I was in a rush to get the truck on the road and do my “Is this the year I finally get pulled over by a bored suburban cop?” and “Will any of the light strands come loose at speeds above 55 MPH?” tests; The truck passed both tests, but because I was so eager to get on the road I only completed phases one and two of the decorations; Phase three is putting on the hitch hauler, zip-tying the fake tree to the hitch hauler, and decorating both the tree and the hitch hauler with lights...

I also shared this on a Facebook group I’m a part of called “Rusting and Running Rides”, word for word...

“My grandma used to have of these; It was a 1987 model like this one and had the exact same wheels, but hers was silver with a gray interior. Hers was front-wheel drive model and had an automatic transmission...

My grandma bought a second home in 1989, in the form of a lake house in Maine, while she still lived in Arizona; It was easier to have a third vehicle up in Maine than to drive her Mercedes or my grandpa’s Cadillac from Arizona. My uncle had his finger on the pulse of numerous insurance wholesale auctions, and she tasked her youngest son with finding something cheap and reliable to drive in Maine; Her two requirements were that it had to have air-conditioning and it had to have an automatic transmission. I do not think the Subaru was a insurance write-off with a salvage title like most of the vehicles my uncle bought to flip for a profit, but rather just an undamaged wholesale unit with slightly high miles for its age.

My uncle found the Subaru, Grammy loved it, and my uncle drove it up to Maine. I don’t know what year she bought it, but I can tell you it was after 1990 when she officially started living in the house part-time, and before 1993; The Subaru was a great car and my dad even used it to tow our boat! Grammy must have sold the car in 1997 because 1996 is the last year I remember it being there, and by the summer of 1997 it was definitely gone. My grandparents moved to Pennsylvania in 1994 and this eliminated the need for a third vehicle...

The friend my grandma sold the 1987 Subaru to in 1996 or 1997 totaled it in 1999 (nobody was hurt), and I remember actually crying because I loved that car so much!

Grammy’s Subaru definitely had A/C, because she refused to own a vehicle without it; It was an automatic because Grammy attempted to drive stick once in her youth and said “never again”. It had manual windows and no other options besides an AM/FM radio (possibly a tape deck). The car was completely trouble-free and the main reason it got sold was because my grandparents didn’t need it anymore and got sick of paying for insurance on a car they only used a few months out of the year!”

The white 1987 Subaru above looks a lot like Grammy’s 1987 Subaru, except Grammy’s was gray or silver with a gray interior, had an automatic transmission, and DID NOT have 4WD (remember when you could actually get a Subaru in FWD?); These are interior pics from the white car above...

:santa: :santa2: I made some improvements behind the scenes...

For starters, I ziptied the control boxes for the lights to a tiedown cleat; In years past, I’d simply duct-tape the control boxes to the side of the bed and they’d inevitably come loose and get destroyed from being knocked around...

:santa: :santa2: Except this one, which I initially ziptied to another cleat; It kept getting knocked around and then ziptie actually snapped at some point and blew away on 611...

It kept switching form “steady” to “blink” mode from getting jostled, so I just stuck it in the left storage cubby and it seems to be fine so far!

:santa: :santa2: In 2017, 2018, and 2019, I used one 50-light string JUST ON THE TAILGATE (The purpose of this was so I’d still have use of the tailgate); When you take into consideration that each of these sets is twenty bucks, it’s kind of a waste...

This year, I purchased three 100-light strands (strangely only a couple bucks more than the 50-light strands) and wrapped one around the bed, giving it some slack so I’d still have use of the tailgate!
