sitoshi help!

So I read the thread on how to do it, But how long does it take to make? and how much are all the materials needed?

I have the tools needed.

Can I get everything I need at Home depot or Lowes

 

If you go this way, it will take the good part of a day to do it sloppy and a day and a half to two to do it right. The mesh I got from customcargrills.com for 50 bucks shipped and the other materials were roughy 30 bucks for sandpaper, paint, and putty. I would probably go to a auto parts store to get the finishing putty and epoxy though since they carry it for automotive use and you can get the sandpaper there too.

Also I would have a dremil tool and a bunch of cut off wheels along with a palm sander handy! It will make life a lot easier with this mod.

 

Mine took me forever, mostly the repeated puttying and sanding
My Emblem was also time consuming.
I went to great detail to make it perfect, but don't know if it was worth all the effort
It didn't come out perfect and no one notices
I bought a color matched grill (to be able to keep the stock one for future),
that jacked the price up, as well as plenty of good paint.

Plan on 2 days (winter-days are shorter) cuz you gonna wanna take your time. Don't rush. Epoxy & finish putty has to be done right, otherwise it will show through. You wanna get surface nice & smooth with no blemishes. I thought I did a pretty good job on the finish putty and was pleased with it. But when I painted with Krylon Fusion Satin Black, all the minor imperfections appeared . Luckily I had some Ultra Flat Black paint laying around. I sprayed over the satin paint and it hid all the uglyness . But I got a crackle effect on the paint, which doesn't look bad. I kinda like it. Good luck.

BTW, I used plastic backing for the epoxy area. I just couldn't get mending pieces to fit right & set in place while epoxy hardened.

 

Jack, you got the cleanest lookin grill. Looks straight out of the factory. Sure it was worth it!

yeah 2 days is good. its pretty easy i made 2 and i suck at that kind of stuff. if you run into problems just ask.

 

It took me roughly 20 hours not including the time for the paint to dry. Lots of filling and sanding and filling and waiting to dry and sanding some more. Then primer and sanding and on and on and on. Then once I had it painted, I marked the spots to mount the bolts to attach the mesh and then set them in place and waited for it to all dry and then put it together. It was a fun little project.
