I didn’t see anything that looked like broadhead in lung but it was hard to tell because the lung caught a knife to kill it when the dogs got on him. From now on I will be aiming straight up the leg 6”. It sucks to wound one like that. Glad we got him recovered but wish it wouldn’t have taken six hours and two dogs. Gotta learn from it and make better choices next time I guess

Patience is the key, waited 3 hrs to start looking for 1 a couple years back, bumped him and never seen again.

For broadside shots, straight up the leg, about 1/3 of the way from the bottom. Puts it right in the Vee formed by the shoulder. There is a ton of large blood vessels there, ensuring a quick kill. If the closest leg is straight down or forward, that's my aiming point. Quartering away, Im shooting for the exit or the opposite leg.

This buck is a win on a couple of levels. One, you stuck with the recovery. Far too many hunters give a cursory effort and stop because the deer didn't drop within 50-75 yards. Two, you learned a bit more about deer anatomy. THAT'S a successful day!

Hunting in my creek bottom pop up for the first time this year. I noticed this rub 20 yards from me, the tree is 8AA915DD-230D-44CC-96E9-29CCFAD2054C.jpg about as big around as my thigh.
