Oak mountain you’ll want to slightly pop on the jumps, or pop as hard as you want really there’s no negatives to over jumping at oak mtn. The one jump I shared in the group at coldwater is no pop just go Bc you have speed.

yeah the popping on Lightning freaks me out. it's already so so fast, idk if I can mentally pop too. Thunder had some smaller stuff I really want to hit.

Pretty sure those jumps are closed for being too wet, but they may open up again since we've been dry for a while.

Saturday looks perfect for riding. We could hit some of the dry trails in Corner Canyon 5 mins from the house, or we could go about 30 mins south and hit Eagle Mountain and have a bunch of options. Just depends on your ETA and desire.

@ginseng27 might be down to join us too since he's in the area too.

This is a pretty good video for incorporating bunny hops, then doing it with bumps which will help with jumps.

this guy has a decent video for the first two trails I'm going to practice smaller features, tabletops, etc on.

skip to 8:45 for the start of the fun action. 9:40 I believe is a small gap jump I want to hit. 9:55 is when he starts to hit some of the tabletops on Lightning, including the drop I did earlier this year.

here are my videos from earlier this year of the same 2 trails

he's one of my favorite riders to watch. actually feels "normal" if that makes sense haha. not some sponsored lives at a bike park guy, just a hobbyist like a lot of us, but he rides the trails I ride.

Consider stopping and sessioning some of those jumps. Pump in to them and pop just like bunny hopping as @abacall said. You will be able to clear them going much lower speeds if you pop vs just rolling over them at speed. Just act like you're trying to bunny hop the top of the tabletop and you'll be setup fine.

thanks, that's the plan. I've always just ridden to ride and haven't stopped to session any of it. my goal this weekend is session the features.

This is where I stop if I want to session Lightening, the road is literally right there.
The jumps aren't too bad, but beggars can't be choosers in AL lol.

I've always been a naturally poppy and playful rider (carries over from my skiing style) so being in the air was not uncomfortable for me, but when I wanted to start getting more comfortable on mtb jumps I found some good smaller jump lines and just sessioned the shit out of them. You can spend a couple hours doing just jumps and get more practice than you would all season riding most trail systems. The best part is that practice will carry over and make your normal trail riding way better too. Worth the time spent to be comfortable on at least modest jumps just so you can get the most out of some of the modern flowy jumpy trails.

I've got like a 6 hour drive. So we'll see how early I can leave.

Also, my pedals seem to be in UPS limbo land, so might need to locate some tomorrow or Sat.

All this talks of jumps - I forget what it's like to ride with people who have ridden only a few years and only ride a few times a week at work. We go out and hitting small jumps is a big thing, it's kind of cool to see the excitement when they get their first big air!

....Then there's me. "Hey I got hurt again" "Did you get it on film so the doctor will believe you when you explain what happened?"
