A bit of insight from those of you taking delivery of Taco NOT on the lot at the time of purchase... (Pre 'orders', or Tacos in transit...)
How did you find out of the delivery date of your taco?

My delivery window is between Monday and Thursday next week (this has consistently stayed the same throughout the discussion...) I have been asking for a bit of advanced notice as I' like to make travel arrangements ahead of time... (It is about 500 miles away and I am now considering driving a rental one way instead of flying...)

The same delivery window was offered today as an update so I politely pushed for a narrower window... eventually, the bottom line admission was that at this point they are simply looking out for delivery trucks every day to see if my taco is on the truck showing-up that day... then they'll tell me that it has arrived...

I'm not horribly fuzzed about this... however, I imagined that they would have better delivery visibility, so I am curious...

Is this how it works? - is this consistent with everyone's experience?
    - Thanks.

It wasn’t cheap. Pretty much the same as me renting a car to go pick it up. A little over 1000

From what I understand the truck gets built and is shipped to a dealer in less than 24 hours... who knows how long the transit will take. I was told it would be built on a certain day, but that was worse than waiting for Christmas as a 6 year old. They told me the build would happen on either the 29 or 30. I was wondering how long it would take from Baja. Turns out it was made in San Antonio, so it shipped to the dealer in Albuquerque real quick. But then I had to wait like 2 weeks before I could go pick it up. :annoyed:

Yeah that's more than it costs for you or I to drive from CA to AZ or NM. I would rather make the drive with the wife or a friend and drive back my new truck to get thoroughly acquainted.

Hotels are real cheap right now too. I really was tempted to just camp the whole time, but my 8 month pregnant girlfriend really wanted to stay inside for some odd reason.:notsure:

I think this is correct as I have done this more than a few times with Toyota and has been the same process at several dealers. My most recent "21 TRD pro delivery was scheduled to arrive within a 4 day window of Monday through Thursday and it showed up Monday evening. I do think they are being honest with you, simply because they are unable to pinpoint the truck schedule that precisely. At least that is my understanding. I have ordered quite a bit of BMW's as well and though they can pinpoint when the vehicle will arrive at port, there is always a range of about a week when the car will arrive via truck to the dealer.

A question for those who have ordered their Tacoma: Can you specify where it's built? (The US or Mexico plants)

You have to go through the Costco website to get the discount. If you didn’t do that then they might’ve just given you a discount in that range. As far as I know you can’t just ask for it. I definitely know that the many dealers that don’t do Costco spit all types of straight bs lies about it and hate hearing about it.

I believe position 11 of the VIN number is an indicator. M means Baja Mexico. X means San Antonio, TX.

In looking around at the many Tacomas recently - and the related source of origin tags - it seems that many off-roads are made in Baja while many access cabs are made in Guanajuato. I understand (from reading TW) that PROs are all made in Texas - but that may change next year as production is rejigged...

All of the above is simply anecdotal... I have no particular insight into Toyota dealings.

Note that most - if not al all - Tacoma chassis are made in Mexico - (some may be made in the USA - by the USA operations of the same Mexican company...) so all Tacomas (as with most things...) have parts from Mexico and also many other places... I do not think it matters from a quality standpoint where they are made, as they are all Toyota Factories.

I understood that it was the 1st position in the VIN: 5 = TX while 3 = MX

I am a member at Costco. I did research before buying my Tacoma and my shaky memory tells me they did not have an arrangement with Toyota.

That's great. I imagine you are getting a fair discount then. Does the buying process through Costco take a significant amount of time?

No, in some ways it is faster. It is generally the fleet manager /dept. that handles it and you bypass haggling with the overly-zealous salesmen that deal with everyone else.

County code is always the first digit in the VIN: US 1,5 Canada 2, Mexico 3

My dealer told me that the Army Green Off Roads are made only in Baja. I have no way to verify that other than his word.
