Wayyyy too much engine. V8, yes, but come on, a 392 in a wrangler?

Hope they put some decent running gear under there. Those d44 shafts will snap like toothpicks offroad with 400+hp on them.

No thanks. I've got nothing to prove by driving around in yet another of Fiat's "Mine's Bigger"-mobiles. Let's get real... 15mpg, loud, hot, high-strung, look-at-me things like this are for people that feel the need to prove something to complete strangers. I'd take a Tacoma or Bronco over this any day.

I mean yeah that's the point of big loud vehicles aren't they? To enjoy them and be seen in them.

Just like 80% of this website with aftermarket wheels, suspension, "overlanding" gear, and recovery equipment.

Seeing that it is a wrangler, and a Rubicon at that, I think Jeep would put a lot of effort towards making it right.

If there is something I see with just as often as old tacomas on the road it is old wranglers. I think that says something about those two platforms.

Toyota has always been Toyota. Jeep has been, what? Jeep, Chrysler, Fiat, etc. Doesn't inspire a ton of confidence in their modern vehicles, and I say that as someone who's owned close to 10 jeeps at this point.

I get what you're saying but that seems a bit like a strawman, no? Does toyota not continue producing vehicles with faulty fuel pumps? What about frames? I don't think ownership of a company can be directly correlated to quality of a single product in this instance.

I like jeeps but I think the reason you see alot of old ones still on the road is people buy them as a second vehicle and dont wear them out as fast and a used worn out one is priced as high as a used worn out tacoma so if the motor or transmission goes out people are likely to fix it or sell it to somebody that will instead of it getting parted out like a clapped out dodge neon.

I would guess that the people grumpy about overkill nonsense on a new Jeep are also grumpy about overkill nonsense on someone's Tacoma. I am, anyway. I mean, to each their own and I want everyone to be happy... that kind of thing strikes me as dumb, though.

But I'm almost embarrassed about my Tacoma's capabilities - my 4cyl 1986 pickup took me literally anywhere I wanted to go. I'm already into overkill territory myself.

As someone who previously owned a 392 Challenger and traded it in for a 2018 JLU Rubicon, this seems like the perfect fit.

The axle housings are 3rd gen D-44 hd wide. Much beefier than 2nd gen. Throw some chromoly shafts in there and they'll be fine.
People aren't going to use 440 hp while rock crawling.

The 392 Apache engine is solid and proven to handle 700hp with a SC with the minimum amount of forged internals.

Totally agree.... I was blown away they went through all the effort of putting a 392 in it and then settled for d44s... Must be a Jeep thing...

Meanwhile Chevy Blazer sales are soaring....lol
