well, seeing it in the dirt, it clearly was a cartridge....maybe large enough for a nozzle

I rechecked online and the Lippincott mine was down for the year while military did aerial gunnery practice locally. just assuming cartridges would have been ejected and scattered all over

For sure. Since I just packed up a nozzle or two, that was what I was thinking. Looking closely, for sure it's a cartridge.

If only my rig were a little more capable.
    Some day...
It's possible I might acquire a 1948 Willy's CJ for this very purpose at some point though.
I could probably tow it out there with my 4 banger too.

Probably doing it Sunday to get out of the park. There are a few youtube videos showing the obstacles. Doesn't look like it should be much of an issue.

I did it in my 03 off road 4x4. Do you have 4 wheel drive and a locker?

Just did a 4-day strike mission over this last weekend (Sat 14 - Tues 17) and was not disappointed. The weather was awesome and the new moon made the star viewing MENTAL!

Went with the family and a buddy (in his 07 4Runner) up Goler Wash - Mengel Pass - Butte Valley, over to Titus Canyon, checked out the Racetrack (saw the same BMW pictured in replies above) before heading out to the Eureka Sand Dunes, and then out to Big Pine. Besides the wildlife (Bighorn Sheep, Burros, Bobcats, etc.), canyons, and star gazing, we were treated an awesome air show while hiking on the dunes in Eureka Valley. Aircraft included: two F-18's, two F-16's, two F-117's, and one large cargo or refueling aircraft. (too far away to identify, even with binos or long lens)

This isn't a trip report, just a quick note about how nice it is out there right now and hopefully share/pass the stoke! Still buzzing and ready for the next trip.

It's still doable, may just require stacking a few more rocks. My friend did it in his grand cherokee 4x with no lockers.

Coming down Warm Springs Road towards the Warm Springs Camp. It was a young one, and not as scraggly as I imagined a DV bobcat to be.

I heard the same thing a while back and have been just as excited as anyone reporting them out of Tonapah and Rachael. They were the icing on the cake after being buzzed by F-18's and F-16's. And just like the other reports from middle of Nevada, they had their landing gear down for some of the passes, and did a few barrel rolls for us.

Very cool. I've seen one only once at devils gate on DV road. It was quite healthy. Hadn't heard of them looking scraggly. Good to hear that one was healthy too.

    Just ran it last night.

We got to that section of road, my initial reaction was, “where is the road?"

you could think of it sort of like the narrow and the tall obstacles in the Dedeckera canyon combined. Maybe a bit taller.

I was glad for the narrow first gen, and for lockers.

Sweet. My rigs a 3rd gen 4runnner so I'm narrow and a shorter wheel base. It's also not your typical overland rig. You can usually find it out doing stupid shit like this. lol

    Not Death Valley. lol
