I think I am in the home stretch on figuring out all the big issues with Rosie. The occasionally very loud thud upon takeoff seemed to be sourced to the transmission being overfilled. We drove the truck around town for 30 minutes, got everything up to operating temp, showed the tech the clunk and he got to feel the shudder. He did the temp test deal (it’s a shop, they have the proper scan tool to read that trans temp) where you open the drain plug at a certain temp and let the fluid drain out until it is just dripping...tad more than half a quart came out. He was pretty confident that there wasn’t any damage done, fluid looked new, no shavings found, no leaks found. I have not experienced the clunk since.

The shudder when turning upon acceleration from a stop has worsened. The tech was confident that it’s the mechanical LSD causing the shudder. Chose to change the fluid. Issue has worsened, so I think the diagnosis is right. In researching this issue, seems that these LSD’s in our Tacoma’s don’t like synthetic oil, and need approximately 4oz of additive in them. I’m wondering if perhaps either synthetic oil was used, or if not enough additive was used. Anyone have any experience or insight they can offer? @Tacoma Mike ?

I’ve decided that I want to keep her going for as long as possible. I have a few more gremlins to tackle once this big one is sorted. Staying in the family a little longer.

No complaints about a thud 1/2 qt overfilled per say.
We have fixed hill start issues by filling 1/2 qt over.
    My truck is 1/2 over.

    lsd issue.

    use 8oz of lsd additive...

I have seen this issue a few times and 4 is not enough.

Did not experiment with switching to Dino oil over synthetic as the additive
    Would have been wasted.

hope it calms down for you but good they did something and it’s worse.
    Now you know.

Honestly, I was hoping you would say something like this. I was going to call them tomorrow and find out what they use in the diff (wasn’t on the receipt) and go from there.

Thank you sir! Gentleman and a Toyota scholar...

Just to let you know for next time you can pick that up at Walmart for $18. Typically Autozone or Advance has it for $32.99 which is absurd honestly. I know some people hate going to Wallyworld, but I'll trudge on through for cheap oil. Good oil though, its slowed down the consumption in my friends V6 S10.

yes, i let it drain real good, drip drip drip
that also includes stopping at the autoZone and figuring out which oil to get amongst the sea of variety they have
and could not find my ratchet with the extension that i had separated from the set

oh, i didn't know it cost so much less at the walMart, i have not been to that store for anything since maybe 2oo2

    oh wait, theres more!

A critter is an animal. If you hear scratching noises in your ceiling at night, you can be sure that some kind of critter is living in your attic. Critter is an informal word for any living creature, from a wolf to a spider

A couple of weeks ago I snagged this at Meijer for $5 off and a $5 PayPal rebate. That put me at, $15 for the oil.

    True.

I just stick to that because it's easy to remember. Plus my daughter probably operates the vehicle under the severe category most of the time.....lots of idling and putting around. So it couldn't hurt.

And yes...I have a buddy whose wife puts just a under a 1000 miles a week on her Camry. It's at 290k and I changed the oil about every 6 weeks
