Bak MX4

I just installed the cover and there are 2 large rubber gaskets left over. There is no mention of them in the instructions. Could they be for the outside under the large studs ?

 

Post pics, I have installed one on my 17, 19 and 20 (20 was just recent so newer gen Bak), not sure what gaskets you are referring too.

 

I'm to old to know how to post pics lol. My mistake they are rubber washers.

 

Gotcha, yep those are spares for the ones you used with the main bolts up front.

If you look closely at the install instructions for the MX4, you will see that two rubber washers are used on the elevator bolts on the front of the cover. One washer goes under the head of the elevator bolt and on the topside of the cover, and the other washer goes on the elevator bolt on the underside.

Now with all that said, I just ordered a replacement elevator bolt kit for my MX4 and it only came with 2 rubber washers.

 

Correct, but as OP alluded to, the newer covers are coming with extra rubber washers (at least mine did), I had 6 in total.

 

Just checked my instructions again and there is no picture or instructions that mention the second rubber washer. What year are your instructions from ? Strange

 

Yep, same here on my new one for the 20, the older models had an additional rubber washer as mentioned / pictured (those are 2016 instructions) and the diameter was bigger to accomodate the bolts up front, instructions have since removed this and the rubber washer is different / won't accomodate the bolt. There has been incremental changes to hardware / design over the years on these, like I said have had one on my 17, 19 and 20 each time there was something slightly different when installing.

 

Good to know, my instructions also said to use the supplied strip of gasket. Again it was not required as the cover would have been to high. Thanks for the help.

 

Same, I also never install the drain tubes.

 

Are you getting much water in through the drain tube holes ?

 

I dont really know.... I put holes in my bed so they drain to the ground. I hope so.

The bed stays mostly dry, but there is some light pooling near the cab. I keep a backpack back there in a trash bag to keep it dry.

So, if you did not use the drain tubes I am curious to know if you get more than light pooling in the front of the bed.

 

Nope, only water is a trickle at the front of the cab in the corners, I don't expect or need mine to be waterproof just realitively dry, and that small amount of water runs under the bed mat anywho.

 

You talked me out of drilling.

 

Nice! And worse case scenario you drill later. Agree, would rather not drill into my brand new $45k truck's bed.
