Hello, new here I am selling my 2015 silverado and moving down into an 08 tacoma this weekend, tired of high payments and found a nice tacoma at a decent price so I am excited to finally have one of these bad boys. I have a baby and going into the winter I would love to have automatic start to warm up my truck so if anyone has any recommendations for products that have worked well for them I would love to hear about it. easy to install by myself would be ideal but I just want something that works well. Let me know, look forward to joining this community.

Welcome, lots to find browsing through this forum. Second gen Tacomas are great if properly maintained, not really moving down you’ll be happy.

If 08 is anything like 09, damn things are pretty bulletproof and easy to mod.
Which doesn't really address your question but more to the downgrade comment. I think you'll be happy. Ive never done the autostart thing

Welcome to the forum! Lots of information here about anything Tacoma...
I live in the Southern Area and have no need of a Remote Start, but I'm sure somebody will chime in soon.

Congrats on the upgrade/downgrade. No one mentioned the most used or popular brands on the forum so i will point you in the direction
12voltsolutions and Accessorides both make plug n play models for our Tacomas. The version depend on if you have the immobilizer on your truck or not. I recently picked up my Taco in August and i am also starting my research on a plug n play version for my 2010. Currently i am leaning towards the Accessorides model based off the remote as they are similar in price. Maybe @Accessorides or 12volt will chime in. Im currently trying to find out if i add an alarm later, will the remote start model integrate with an alarm not having to carry multiple remotes.

Welcome to TW. In addition to black Friday sale and great technical support for DIY installs, highly recommend buying a remote start system from Crutchfield.
Personally, I have the Autopage RS730 alarm with remote start and it works flawlessly since day one.

@Wattapunk Did you do your install yourself and was it plug n play or did you have to do some splicing? Care to share what you paid for it when you purchased it if you recall?

    Thanks

I just installed mine from 12 volt solutions in my 15. Got the long range remote with 2 way feedback. Easy install and a great product. If I can copy the link to my TW post, I will send it to you.

I did not install the alarm and paid $350 for the alarm with install. You will need to splice wires for any alarm install and most are installed under the driver's side dash location due to close proximity of the factory wiring. I've done a couple installs on past vehicles and if you are familiar with stereo installs then alarm are a little more tedious process but very doable. Crutchfield tech support are top notch for the DIYer on stereo or alarms. I had good experiences with them with my past and most recent stereo install.

Thanks, its been a while since i played around with car audio so didn't know if they now made some easier T- harness for the alarms or not.

Thanks for the replies guys. I read a thread talking about the 12v and accessoride, they seem like they are great quality from what I've read. I know the 12v has the pitstop mode which I really like wasn't sure about the accessoride one does anyone know if it comes with that option? Also roughly what is the total cost of everything when it's all said and done. Again was planning on doing it myself

Also if anyone has any recommendations on touchscreen radios that are compatible with a backup camera would love to hear about that as well. Thanks all!

From what i have read, they both have the pitstop feature. I think most remote starts have that now as i have a code alarm on a 2000
4runner and it has the pitstop feature. That was installed over 15years ago.

As far as cost, the remote starts appear to both run around 300-350$ and they are plug and play so installation can be done by yourself at home. Most are saying its roughly 40mins to do the install. Most of that time coming from removing the plastic panels under the dash

I have a Viper system installed by bestbuy to start mine, I've had plenty of problems with connectivity from remote to antenna though.

Ive been looking at some of the Pioneer radios to go in mine. I have the OEM backup camera displayed in the rear view so there are a couple threads on keeping it there along with adding it to the indash screen. If you Do Not have the JBL system, swapping the radio will be much easier. Seems like the Schoshe dash kit is the preferred one to go with as well.

I actually just called Accessorides to ask about their system. I would need the one for the ignition key with a dot on it and it is completely plug n play. Only wire I may have to tap is the horn wire if i want the horn to beep on the 2nd press of the lock button or if i want the panic feature to work. It does have the pit stop function but it doesnt integrate well if you add an alarm after the fact. Right now the system with 2 1-way remotes are 299 and if you want the 2-way remotes, its 375$. He did say they would offer a Black Friday sale but wasnt sure what it would be. there is also a code on the site for $25 off currently.

Well, the deed is done I'm the proud owner of a toyota tacoma. Also got the other set of keys and low and behold there was a separate key fob on it with an automatic start button so that was a nice treat. Don't think the dealer knew it was on there.
