I agree but I doubt this guy ever went-in guns blazing; he probably threw a fit with the Service Manager, which ellicited a non-professional response (justified or not) then he started crying to anyone who would listen and ranting about how he wanted a new, better truck because he's entitled. We used to have a guy just like this at work (came from the same region of the country too). It was a pleasure watching him get walked-out the door ranting and raving like an idiot then listening to him call the Union, his Lawyer and his Mom (no joke) from the parking lot. Two weeks later he begged for his job back. I think he drove a Nissan Titan if I recall.

100% This!!! I had some minor hiccups with my 2020 Tacoma (Having to resign finance docs 3 times due to screw ups with the finance co's new computer system and 3M having to be redone and some other things that were not the end of the world). I was pleasant but firm and ended up with a $100 service credit, Tank of gas on the house, 2 Toyota branded Yeti Tumblers and a $100+ bottle of bourbon from the director of finance. Even had the new car sales manager hand me the keys to his personal Highlander Platinum so I was not without a car for the day. There are times to be unpleasant and this ain't it, yet... lol

Yes it will I have seen valves driven through pistons. You got some serious damage there. My guess they will put an engine in it.

Like I said, there are two sides to every story and the truth is somewhere in the middle. Given that you didn't get the response you wanted and have since edited your original post (removing the part where you won't settle for anything less than a new truck or a steep discount on a TRD Pro) I'm really not sure what to believe any more. You can call it assuming all you want, but I work with the information I'm given. You've probably never actually read my numerous comments in this thread. I said very little beyond the fact that I could see the dealership MAYBE trading for a similarly spec'd truck (which they aren't obligated to do) but certainly not a discount on an upgraded model.

I agree. You shouldn't have the truck and probably go back to a skateboard. Toyota has probably sold 2,000,000 vehicles with this motor and 1 or 2 issues should be serious concern. I hope you put pen to paper and let Toyota know that there is a defect and they should get out of the car business. I never thought I would say this, but I feel sorry for the dealer in this case. Maybe it is karma?

Looking at Mass lemon law, you are not 11 days in. If this happened on the 9th, you are only 9 days in because you can't count days they are closed and since they are closed for thanksgiving, you won't be able to count that day either. Looks like you can move to step 2 if you don't have it back by Dec 3. Even moving to step 2 does not mean you have a claim because you have to allow for time during that phase.

Let's take a further look at the law. It states - If your car is eligible, you must be able to demonstrate specifically how the use, safety, or market value is substantially impaired by the defect. To prove the market value impairment, you must show that your vehicle is worth at least 10% less than it would be without the defect. Good luck proving that your truck is instantly worth $4k less because of a repair.

Once you jump through all these hoops they will give you your money back or offer you a new vehicle of equal or better value. I'm pretty sure that wouldn't be a TRD Pro, but you can dream.

You do have a valid claim, but when you start making unreasonable demands and claims, the chances of them working with you are slim. I can promise you that if you go in there with the same attitude you have here, which I couldn't imagine being any different, you will get the bare minimum. I'm assuming that you have a rental while your truck is there, so you are not out anything and you have a vehicle that you can put miles on that you are not paying for. They should have given you an equal vehicle to what you had and if you are rolling around in a Yaris, it is probably because of your attitude.

    Good luck with your repair.

    Get a 4Runner with the 4.0

there’s a reason Japan kept the 4.0 and didn’t jump to the Camry motor

Yeah, it was. Thats what my service advisor said also. They only gave me 1 year warranty/unlimited miles on the parts they put in.

They not going to put a new engine in. They going to put a new head on. Unless they want the engine for research purposes on why it broke in the first place.

Wow.....many statements in this train wreck are funny.

Power steering and power brakes will function to allow control of the vehicle without power. This is mandated by the FMVSS. Yes, it will take more physical effort to steer or brake. You would be able to control the vehicle. Unsafe based on loss of power steering or power brakes......only if you panic.

Toyota is only bound by the warranty and the applicable laws. Resolution beyond warranty or law will be based on Good Will.

OP. Good luck with the repair and resolution. I suspect you won't get a replacement or upgraded truck.

Your corporate pseudo-lawyer told you things can be done. That doesn't mean Toyota or the dealer have to do anything, he's talking about negotiating a settlement. This is what lawyers do 99.9% of the time.

I will absolutely guarantee you that your employer is NOT going to authorize hundreds of billable legal hours from the attorney for you to get your ass handed to you by one of the largest companies in the world.

You're going to learn somethings over this deal. Mostly that you don't know a fucking thing about the real world

If it’s a broken valve spring the damage might be minimal and limited to the spring itself. Which would be repairable without even pulling the head. That’s not too bad. If the valve dropped into the cylinder or struck a piston you could be looking at a lot of damage.
